Asthma

I am currently 12 almost 13 weeks along and my asthma is terrible during the winter! I usually take an albuteral inhaler along with symbicort... I've read they are both listed as a class c... Has anyone else used these during pregnancy?

Re: Asthma

  • Hey, I am asthmatic too. Mine flares up during weather change. Otherwise I am just on an emergency inhaler. When I asked my obgyn she said that the most important thing is keeping mommy breathing to make sure that the baby is also getting enough oxygen. We will address my meds if I start needing to them more than just as a rescue.

  • My albuterol I have taken all three of my pregnancies. Was on symbicort through half my pregnancy with #2,and my entire pregnancy so far this time. My son turned out just fine and I could breathe tons better. (Prior to that I ended up in the ER for asthma attacks.)

My doc has no problem with me taking it during this pregnancy because she wants to avoid asthma attacks, the ER and prednisone.

  • I used symbicort just a handful of time when i was last pregnant. They can switch you to a safer flovent. I feel like it's not the same. Use albuterol as needed because its better for the baby that you breathe well than any med side effect. Hang in there!

  • I was switched off my c list inhaler to pulmicort as well.

  • Keep taking your meds!! I also have asthma and my ob said that if I'm needing to take my albuterol on a regular basis then see my asthma doc and get my meds re-evaluated. If your asthma gets really bad they will put you on pred which is safe.

  • I take my albuteral, my doctor approved it.
  • I take what you take and my dr said it's more important to breathe than any minimal risks of the drugs. Your baby needs oxygen the most. If you are worried about it, then ask them and maybe they can give you something safer.

  • I have exercised induced so I only use my rescue inhaler before running (now jogging). Dr. said it was important for baby and I that I can breath, so she doesn't see a problem with it. I did give up the am and pm inhaler for now though. Doing ok so far.

I've been so wheezy and just had to use symbicort again to stop using albuterol so much. It's just scary to have all those meds and being pregnant :(
