Gag reflex

Anyone having trouble with feel like you have to gag over things that smell off, but not really that bad? Or just for no reason.. I start to gag and then I throw up: I'm having a really hard time with this the last few days. I started wearing a mask to go certain places in my house and bought smells I like in potpourri , but when I'm out I'm barley keeping it togeather!' Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Gag reflex

  • Exactly the same with me, I'd like to know as well..It's horrible, and so damn embarrassing!!

  • I was just thinking about this tonight because the weirdest thing happened...I was watching TV and a violent scene came on and I started gagging, couldn't stop and then threw up my whole dinner....

I love scary movies, never have been bothered by blood or gore... This is completely bizarre!

I've been bothered by smell since the beginning of my pregnancy and gag due to smell often, but this is new..

  • Yes! This is me! I felt fine last night. I went upstairs to put on sweats and started gagging for no reason. Threw up my whole pizza. This happens to me almost every day once.

  • I've been gagging since about week 6 (I'm at 14 and a half now)
    Over everything
Mostly bathrooms. Clean or dirty. Even if I go to the washroom and wipe. The site of that clear or milky or whatever color it is discharge will do it
But it can be as simple as moving too fast. Even stepping outside to get fresh air can make me gag

I've literally been gagging over everything. All the time. All day long.
  • When does the gagging end!!! Oh when week 14 came around I thought, this has to be the end....prob the worst week! Who throws up and has a nosebleed at the same time ---> this girl!!!

  • I gag all the time. At my job, in the car... It is generally be said of smells or the fact that I need to go throw up but trying really hard not to. A few weekends ago my DH and I went to visit his parents, about a 4 hour road trip, this was when my MS was at its worst. I gagged I don't know how many times while I was in the car with him, finally when we got to his parents he said "I am not driving you anywhere else while you are pregnant, you're making me sick and scaring the dog". Haha! It has gotten better but I still do it daily, my mother did it when she was pregnant too. I hope it goes away soon, it's the worst.
  • This is me! I can hardly do anything in the kitchen. DH has to do the dishes because I gag and throw up if I do. This is very hard now that he's at a conference. I emptied my stomach right before bed last night just because something made me gag as I was filling my water bottle.
  • I have not stepped in the kitchen since week 6 when it started, now I'm making my way close to 12 and I still just can not. My sister came over yesterday and went into the kitchen and was like you know there is rotten food in the fridge and that's all it took, I thought about what it probably looked like and everything I had attempted to eat that day came up. This kinda stuff had been happening all the time! It's so embarrassing and frustrating bc I don't want to be like this anymore! I'm embarrassed I have rotten food in the fridge, that we haven't bought groceries in a month bc I can't stand the smell of the grocery store or the sight of the raw meat. I knew I couldn't be alone but I'm really glad to read and see I'm not.

  • I was doing dishes last night and just started gagging did not even make it to the bathroom I threw up in the trash can. I thought that was so wierd first time I have thrown up this whole pregnancy and I'm 15 weeks.
  • I haven't made a real dinner in weeks due to my gagging! I can't smell anything without gagging or throwing up .

Luckily I am almost 15 weeks and it's starting to get better!
  • Mine has not been related to smells....yet, but I have been gagging every time I brush my teeth!  I know that dental care is really important esp. while pregnant so I'm trying to make sure that I'm brushing well and using mouth wash.  I gag every time and I have tried decreasing the amount of tooth paste I use since the amount of foam in my mouth seems to make it worse.  My husband thinks it's so gross but there's nothing I can do!  I have literally pushed him out of the sink because he seems to take 10 minutes to rinse his mouth!
  • Yes yes yes.  DH will be talking about the most random thing and all of a sudden I want to gag.  I also can't walk through the frozen section at the grocery store without a huge urge to puke.  I also have to hold my breath when I throw anything in the trash can.

  • I had the same problem. I started using wisps. They don't make me gag. Thank god
  • Me too! Mine starts with a cough though. One random cough. Then I gag and have to run to the bathroom. Mine ends with dry heaving though :/
Same!!!  Doesn't help that I have actually had a cough for the past few weeks.  It happens a lot at school when I'm in the middle of teaching...thank goodness my students are responsible because I end up sprinting out of the room to take care of business, leaving them all alone haha.

  • I was doing this everyday all day. Finally gave into the meds for morning sickness- Diclegis And I have to say it has taken this away almost completely. I still do it but it doesn't result in full on dry heaves or vomiting anymore. I started last week and am 13 weeks now. I feel like a new person and I can finally eat. I had this since week 9 and I don't know why I waited so long to give in. I can actually cook and eat. I noticed the times I do it- I am usually needing water or a small snack. You may not feel hungry or dehydrated but I think our bodies do.
  • If I exert myself too much, ie work too hard settling back into my giant pregnancy pillow, I gag. Sometimes I can breath and calm down. Other time it turns into puking.
  • Omg reading about this is even making me gag :)) Isn't it crazy! Mine only really stopped (mostly) at 12 weeks. It was debilitating! They say smell a lemon, citrus is supposed to calm it down. Good luck girls. This too shall pass x
  • A smell that drives me insane is scented soaps, so I've taken them all away out of the house, haha. Now there's some weird scent between the family room and the kitchen and I HATE IT. wondering when the scent sensitivity goes away...

  • I just gag for no reason sometimes now. I'm not even really nauseous. I'm 13w and thought I had put it all behind me and next thing you know I puked on the bathroom floor. Pregnancy is fun!
  • I'm so glad it's boult just me.
I gag when I brush teeth too.
    I can't burp well, so I gag.
When I ate too much I gag.
When I go public bathroom, I gag...
    Or just randomly gag!!!!
I went to dentist last week I was worry I can't even keep my mouth open, but it was ok.
I hope it's stops after birth!
