Need Breakfast Help

I usually have steel cut oatmeal with peanut butter in it for breakfast. I love it and look forward to it. But pretty much every day it gives me heartburn. I need to try some other breakfast ideas, with protein in them.

Any ideas? Eggs? Sounds complicated to bring to work. What the hell do people eat for breakfast?!

Food is hard.

Re: Need Breakfast Help

  • I eat yogurt and granola once I get to work, but my sister in law makes egg sandwiches every morning and it's actually pretty quick and easy. This might sound gross, but I promise it's not: she microwaves one egg in a ramekin for about 10 seconds at a time (otherwise it will blow up), and microwaves 1 slice of turkey bacon, puts it on some bread with a slice of cheese and it good to go.

Food is hard! I hope you find something you like!

  • I could try the egg and cheese thing...I did have to look up what a ramekin is, though :) I don't have one of those but I could probably pick one up easily.

I'm on and off with yogurt. Sometimes it's just too sugary for me (have you ever seen how many grams of sugar are in a yogurt?! It's shocking!). It really annoys me to have so much sugar in the morning! But maybe I'll try the egg and cheese thing. Thanks!
  • I eat a small bean and cheese burrito (eggs hurt my stomach) for breakfast. You can make these ahead of time and freeze them, then just heat them up in the microwave before eating. I also bring some oatmeal or fruit for my mid-morning snack (aka second breakfast).
  • Sometimes I scramble eggs, put some shredded cheese on them and wrap them in a tortilla for my daughter to eat in the car on the way to school.  That is pretty quick and portable.

I have no idea whether this would be heartburn-inducing or if it helps at all, but I typically have fruit first (something portable...like a banana or some clementines) and then a PB&J (often with hemp seeds for extra protein and omega's) when I feel hungry again (usually around 11).
I sometimes eat an apple on the way to work. Its delicious, but doesn't prevent heartburn. I have a PB&J with me today that I found on the counter this morning. Either DH made me one (so sweet!) and left it for me, or he made one for himself and forgot it (finders keepers!)
  • I'm a fan of yogurt with granola and berries. Quick and easy.

  • Protein "milkshakes" with protein powder, fruit, ice, milk, chia seeds, etc. Combinations are endless

Premade breakfast burritos with eggs, cheese, turkey sausage, etc.

Greek yogurt and plain granola and raisins/craisins.

Protein pancakes (also can be premade). I use Kodiak brand from Target but you can also make the batter yourself.

To get the milkshake consistency, just freeze a banana and then add that to the mix. It seriously makes the smoothie into a milkshake and is SO GOOD.

    Thank you, thank you. Lifesaver.
  • I eat vanilla yogurt with berries and granola every morning at work
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • Instead of a ramekin you could try a coffee mug...I've done it before, just make sure to soak your mug or you might end up with egg residue when it comes out of the dishwasher
  • sometimes I'll eat vanilla Greek yogurt with a tbsp of peanut butter and either a banana in it or a crushed graham cracker

Oh nice call with the graham cracker idea!
My issue with yogurt, unless its plain greek yogurt, is that there is a ton of sugar in it. I dont know why it irks me so much but it does. I just get sick of eating plain yogurt all the time. If I do eat it I like the graham cracker thing. Sounds yum!
  • I usually eat granola (homemade) and yogurt or a bowl of Raisin Bran Crunch (it helps me poop). If I'm feeling more ambitious, I will make a breakfast burrito or an egg sandwich(fried egg+cheese+hot sauce on English muffin or toast). Oh and smoothies are good too!

  • English muffin with peanut butter and/or nutella, and a banana has been my go-to pregnancy breakfast.
  • hard boiled eggs? i like cottage cheese w/ blueberries since my GD diagnosis, but not sure how much protein there is.

  • Smoothies are awesome. I usually throw in spinach, kale, and whatever fruit I'm feelin in the Nutribullet with water and lots of plain greek yogurt. Hard boiled eggs the night before are great to grab and go with a handful of raw almonds. Rye toast with nut butter is also good.
  • I drink the Bragg's apple cider vinegar drink with every meal - no heartburn/acid reflux ever!
  • I make egg muffins, I basically make scrambled eggs, put whatever meat n veggies n cheese I want in it then spray my muffin tin with oil n full em up.. Let them bake n check with a tooth pick to make sure they're done, let them cool, put 2 muffins in each baggie then just heat in the microwave in the AM... sometimes I make some toast or an English muffin too but the 2 egg muffins r usually enough.. GL.:-)
  • Yogurt is actually a heartburn cure. If you're worried abotu the sugar, use plain greek yogurt and add fruit and honey as well as granola

  • I usually eat a bagel because I need the carbs but my friends mom makes egg fratatas in a cupcake pan then freezes each one in a plastic bag so her daughter just has to put it on an English muffin then pop it in the morcrowave or toaster oven for a few seconds and it's super easy and fast

I've been having this the past couple of weeks and love it.  (not too sure if its the oatmeal or the peanut butter giving you the heartburn).

I also like to eat scrambled eggs on peanut butter toast or on a blue berry ego...a quick way to make scrambled eggs is to crack 2 eggs into a microwave safe bowl, scramble, put in the microwave for about 1 1/2 min and then they are cooked!  I must admit you have to clean the bowl RIGHT AWAY because if you let it sit the egg remains are very difficult to get off later.
