What brand of makeup/foundation do you use?

My face has been breaking out and I think my $2 CVS concealer may be partly to blame. I want to get a mini makeover and get new eyeshadow, too. Does Sephora do that in the store? I've always gone to department stores in the past. I need something good, both to cover and hopefully prevent zits.

  • I use philosophy super natural powder foundation. I buy mine at Ulta.

  • Just to be sure, you wash out your brushes or use a new applicator each time? There could be built up oils/bacteria on your brushes that need to be cleaned.
  • I switched to Artistry recently and while it could be a coincidence, my "pregnancy acne" is gone! I love it!

  • I use Arbonne liquid foundation. I start with their primer, then foundation, bronzer, blush & eye shadow. I've used their stuff for several years and had terrible acne before but no problems since. I also use their she's hand soap as a facial cleanser.

  • I actually need a new one because the other new one I got literally made my face burn. That's what I get for being cheap.

I *was* using smashbox hd liquid something, and it worked well. Then I ran out and decided to try to be cheap. Oh well, back to smashbox.

  • I hate foundation as it seems to settle into every little line on my face and I just feel ancient.  However, recently I was given some samples of a tinted moisturizer (Aveda) and I like it so much better.  I too am prone to breakouts and this doesn't seem to hurt.

  • I still use my bare minerals.  But when i was having some skin issues, I went to Sephora and got the free makeover.  If you do that, they will try different ones to see which you like.  But be prepared to end up spending $$$.

I don't, but I only use eye shadow brushes. The concealer is liquid, so I just use a clean finger. Do you think that's a problem? I'm willing to do anything at this point, I hate looking at my face :(

I actually don't care what it costs, as long as it works. I just hate spending a lot for "high end" stuff and then finding it's not much better than the Target brand!

  • @jmcgra06‌ I don't really see a problem with a clean finger as long as you aren't sticking it in the concealer bottle lol. But you should wash any brushes you use. All that said, skin changes during pregnancy, so I'm glad the other ladies have good suggestions for you to try.

  • @crazycornball @kkleigh10 if you don't mind me asking, do you have oily, dry or combo skin? I too have acne prone skin (pretty bad actually) but it's incredibly dry. I have to cake on moisturizer before applying the concealer/foundation I use to cover up the zits. You'd think I'd have the hang of a skincare routine by now, but it's completely lacking. Just curious what you ladies do...

  • I have oily/combination skin and use: Dior Diorskin Nude BB Cream

I apply w/ a beauty blender which works really well.

Go to Sephora and have them match you and get some different samples to see how they wear. I used Bare Escentuals for years until I really looked at how it made my skin look (YUK). I switched to the Dior BB Cream and love it sooooo much. Whatever you choose, I would buy it at Sephora because you can return it if you don't like it (even if it is almost gone).

If I need concealer I use Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer. I also use Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder to set my makeup sometimes.

Oh, and FYI Sephora is having a 20% off sale starting tomorrow!! You could probably check Google to find a code.

  • I use Tarte Amazonian Clay foundation. I'm a make up whore with sensitive skin, prone to break outs. I've tried everything. This stuff lasts forever, has great coverage and as is the same with all Tarte products it is: Formulated without parabens, formulated without mineral oil, formulated without phthalates, formulated without sodium lauryl sulfates, formulated without gluten.

I also live and die by the 'Beauty Blender' applicator.

    Good luck!

  • Clinique and MAC. I usually have combination skin and use the super fit foundation by Clinique. In the summer, it seems a bit much, but in the winter, its great. However, this pregnancy, I have yet to get a pimple. My last two, I broke out everywhere!
  • Bare Minerals and NARS... Both powder. I just hate the feeling of liquid foundation (thank you stage makeup). So I use the bare minerals at home but keep a compact of NARS in my purse but I actually look for minimal coverage because I'm freckley so I don't want to cover that. If need be I spot correct with cream concealer but (don't hate me) I don't brake out typically so I can't really speak to how well they work for overall breakout coverage.

  • I use Dior Star foundation and it is my favorite! I also use Josie Maran's foundation. I break out very easily and these both have never caused any acne! I used to use bare minerals for years but I thought it made my skin look old.

  • I've had acne prone skin my whole life, and have used Clinique and Bare Minerals. Neither of them make me break out. I am using more Clinique these days, because I think that the mineral makeup isn't as good at hiding my fine lines. It also doesn't have the coverage I need some days, while fighting my horrid pregnancy skin.

I usually buy online, unless I think I need a new color, and then I'll have a dept store match me. I rarely shop at Sephora...but I probably should do that more.
    This! :-)

  • I was having acne issues a few years back and the girl at Sephora recommended Murad acne treatment concealer which I have used ever since-it has the stuff in it to fight acne while you are wearing it. I use a brush to blend it. I also liked their acne cleanser but have switched since to one I buy off of Birchbox.

Besides that, I wear benefit stay flawless primer then the Tarte Amazonian Clay airbrush foundation.

I gave up on sephora's f&f after I had to buy a code off eBay last year :(

  • Oh! I also use tarte amazonion liquid foundation. I am extremely picky when it comes to liquid and this goes on super smooth and powder like. It also doesn't turn into a grease face at 2pm.

  • Does anyone Clarisonic? I have dry skin so I pretend that not washing it helps but I think that's wrong...I feel like I should be gently exfoliating more frequently but don't know if the brush is too harsh? Can I piggyback on this with good hydrating cleansers?

  • I have acne prone combination skin that loves to overcompensate for any dryness with ALL THE OIL EVER. I used to use bare minerals foundation and Mac spot concealer, but I switched to a clay based soap (Kiehls Amazonian rare earth) and Laura Mercier tinted oil-free moisturizer and my skin has never looked better. I've been doing this for about a year now, and my skin is bright, soft, and I rarely ever get blemishes, which leads me to believe that I just needed to moisturizer better and stop putting more stuff on my skin. I know everyone is different but I will sing the praises of the Laura Mercier moisturizer to anyone who will listen. And it has SPF!

  • I use the Tarte Amazonian clay foundation, too. I also sometimes mix it with a bit of Revlon colorstay for combination skin and use a beauty blender to apply. I use the TooFace primed and poreless primer and powder because my pores have their own zip code. My go to concealer has been benefit erase paste.

All these products last an extremely long time!

Yes, and I love it! I have pretty bad dry skin in the winter-I clairsonic in the morning, then serum and moisturizer and at night just wash and use beeswax moisturizer (in the summer I use the same moisturizer at night as in the morning). I have had the clairsonic for 5ish years and it is still going strong. You can also buy different "strength" brushes depending on your skin type. Definitely don't pay full price. I got mine during sephora's f&f before they locked it down.

  • They do. I usually just use powder, however, pregnancy gives me blotchy spots. I use the Jane Iredale foundation. It's mineral based, but I'm pretty sure everything is these days. It's consistency takes some getting used to, and a little goes a LONG way, but it's got great coverage!

Side Note: does anyone here use Birchbox service? I started two months ago and it's the BEST. For $10/month they send you a cute box of 4 different beauty samples based on a profile you fill out online. This month I got an eyeshadow palette (4 colors), Beauty Protector (spray for your hair before blow drying...it's amazing), Tocca hand lotion and Suki exfoliating cleanser. All of their product samples are top of the line (no cheap stuff) and they have an online store if you want to buy full-size versions of the samples you got. It saves me a ton of money because I'm always buying makeup/hair product that I don't end up liking or using. Just a tip for product junkies out there!!
I did Birchbox for 2 years along with a few other beauty subscriptions - but I ended up cancelling it a few months ago and just doing Allure Sample Society. I did like it, I just accumulated an overwhelming amount of stuff! I am thinking of signing back up and gifting some subscriptions for the holidays!

ETA: Birchbox has the BEST rewards program. That alone is why I would come back in a heartbeat - anytime I bought full size products from their site, I was able to use points to get them at a discounted rate!
