Parenting after a Loss

Am I Crazy?

Our DS is 10 weeks old, and I'm having fertile CM signs already.  We have decided to try for one more, and would like for them to be within a couple years of each other (plus our MFM specialist is retiring in 2 years!).  Would I be BSC to jump back on the TTC train so soon?!?  My OB said to do whatever I want, just to keep her in the loop.  It took us 2 1/2 years and 5 pregnancies to have DS.  I'm just afraid to wait...  Also, I'm pretty sure I don't know how to be a non-pregnant person any more.

Also, AW pic from Halloween:

Re: Am I Crazy?

  • That pic is adorable! :)

I know plenty of people who have started trying right away and/or got pregnant right on the heels of another baby. My DH is only 13 months younger than his sister and it seemed to work out great for their family.

So, no, I don't think you're crazy to think about trying again soon.

  • @mamlamb10  I know CM could really mean nothing at this point.  DH has been talking about Irish twins since third trimester, but I was against it until I saw how quickly my body recovered from this pregnancy and birth.  I think my plan at this point is to pay attention to my CM, but not get super into BBT and OPKs for the time being.

  • I don't think you're crazy!

Before we started TTC, we always said that we wanted a few years in between kids (as in at least three years).  After having a miscarriage and dealing with all of the complications I had with my pregnancy with DS, we decided not to wait.  That being said, my OB advised us to wait a year b/c I had a c/s.  As soon as the year passed, we started trying.

I am currently 6 weeks and change with this pregnancy and still have fleeting moments of "omg we're nuts!", but overall I'm so excited.  Also, I should note that it took slightly longer to get pregnant this time around.  I got pregnant right away with my loss, after 3 cycles w/ DS, and after 4 cycles this time.

    Good luck!
  • If you and DH feel ready, and have your Dr's blessing, I say go for it. It sounds like "timing" is not something that can easily be planned. We planned on having our first at 37, and I brought my son home after my 40th birthday. Even though we went with IVF, we won't take anything for granted with our embryo's and how long it could take us to have #2. Good luck with your decision!

  • That's not crazy. Whatever you feel is best for your family. DH and I are most likely one and done and we hear about it all the time from people. People are going to have negative things to say about anything. I say go for it! We all know on this board that it can be awhile before that baby is in our arms.

  • Thanks ladies.  I don't really have anyone to talk to about this, because I don't want everyone to know when we start trying again.

    1) OMG that pic is too cute!

    2) yes I think you're BSC!!! lol

I'm pretty sure I'm OAD though, and so not ready to even think about another and B is over a year! If you guys feel ready though, then maybe it is the right time for you guys. There are definitly alot of pros of having 2 close togther. My BFF has 2 under 2 and says it's nuts right now, but will pay off when they're older. If we were to have another I would probably wait until B was around 2 to TTC for my own reasons: getting my body back to a healthy state, not only weight wise, but letting my hormones get back to normal. 9 months of pregnancy and child birth are super stressful on the body. I could not imagine having morning sickness and having to care for a baby, especially until they are sleeping through the night. The first year is so hard, I don't think I would enjoy it/survive if I were sick and tired from being pregnant.

That's just my two cents, I'm absolutely not judging, just telling you why I would not do it. Like I said, if you guys are ready then go for it! :)

ETA: My mom got pregnant by accident when my youngest brother was not even 3 months old. She said she cried when she found out.lol  My brother and sister have always been super close and are still best friends.

No you're not crazy I would have done the same!

I started getting fertile cervical fluid at about 5 months PP, but AF didn't show up until I stopped BFing at 9 months so I think it was just a fake out, could be the same for you.  But there's no harm in trying!

Thank you for all of the support ladies.  We are breastfeeding, but I have to supplement 2-3oz after almost every feeding.  My OB said that with my crazy pre-pregnancy hormone levels and my super low supply, this could be a signal that my body isn't responding normally to breastfeeding and AF may return much sooner for me than most EBF mamas, but it also may not return until we wean.  I know that statement has a lot of ifs and maybes.  I'm just hoping that when my body is ready again, things go smoother than last time.  I feel like I will be so much more comfortable with any possible future pregnancy if I get have the exact same medical team that helped us get our DS here.
