Networking Events

So I don't know why (probably because I'm so terrible/awkward at it) but I'm not a fan of networking/business type of events. However, I am small business type owner and need to do some things that are out of my comfort zone here and there to stay afloat and on top of things.

However, I'm having a really hard time wanting to go to things now that I'm starting to show. I'm afraid that I'm going to lose business or not do myself any favors by telling my competitors and prospective clients that I'm pregnant. Am I being crazy? Maybe just using it more of an excuse not to go to these things? 

Can anyone relate or if not, can you talk some sense into me? How do you handle business type functions, especially for those that represent themselves/companies?

What kind of business? I couldn't see people not hiring you because you are pregnant, but that could just be me.

It's more like publishing and local stuff. I was asked if I'd be interested in free wine and passing along info for a small project for a few hundred. I said I was pregnant and I'd rather do a different route and never heard back, so I guess maybe I'm just scared from that.

It's more or less for relationship building and future projects than physical jobs like a photography business or something.
