Bottles/cups/milk/formula

Where's everyone at with bottles/cups/milk/formula?

We still give formula in each bottle, though they are about 75% wcm at this point. The formula is still in partially because we are just using up what we had, and partially because she has had really decreased appetite lately and I like knowing she is getting the nutrients.

I'm definitely at the point where I'd like to phase out the bottles, she does fine with just a cup at Nana's during the week. But we still give her a bottle at bed and I'm not ready to deal with cutting that one yet (her sleep is just getting back on track after a terrible month).

Re: Bottles/cups/milk/formula

  • We have been on cups and WCM since her first bday. Once in a blue moon if she's super fussy in the MOTN bc of her teeth I'll give her Motrin and some water in a bottle to sooth her back to sleep but we haven't had to do that in a couple of weeks now.

  • We are doing WCM in 3 bottles a day. Tried the sippy cup, but he's really inconsistent with it, so until he's ready he gets water in the cup and milk in the bottles.
  • Same here @mommabakes‌ I've tried different cups so I don't know what the deal is

  • We've been using cups with WCM since around her first birthday. We had trouble switching to a cup at first so I taught her how to use a straw and she's done way better with straw cups
  • Still BFing. We're still trying to get LO to take at least a few sips of WCM but she's very stubborn. Right now I'm trying not to really worry about it since her doctor is ok with her still BFing but I'd like to make a full transition from BFing to WCM (or some other milk) within the next few months. I'm not planning on introducing bottles, only cups when making the transition. She wont even take bottles of BM and hasn't for a long time so I don't anticipate not using bottles to be a problem.
  • Bottles with formula to 8.5 months. Spout cups only since then with formula. Straw cups with WCM since her bday (9/7). We had to go through 4-5 different straw cups to find the right one.

Nuby has been the winner for soft spout and straw cups.

  • Sippy of wcm during the day and breast milk at night. She does great with all Sippy cups and with water out milk. Sometimes she does just want water but I try all day to get her to drink milk over water. She drinks more milk during the evenings
  • WCM in sippy cups. Our pediatrician told us at her 12 month appointment that he didn't want us using bottles after that day, so we stopped. She whined for a day or two, but now she's a champ at cups.

  • Still nursing 3-5 times a day (usually 2x overnight) Water or coconut milk at snacks and meals in sippy or straw cup. I stopped bottles when I dropped the bottle of breastmilk at DC last week.
  • This content has been removed.
  • I'm not consistent with offering WCM, some weeks I offer it in her straw cup but she never wants to drink it. She's still breastfeeding so I'm not worried but she drinks water out of her straw cups daily.
  • LO has been drinking water from a straw cup since 10 months and milk from a hard spout cup since his birthday. He will drink water from a hard spout cup but will not drink milk from a straw cup. I give him milk first thing in the morning, with his afternoon snack and in between dinner and bedtime.
  • She has three 6 Oz bottles of wcm a day. She does water in a cup. We tried the cups for milk and she wouldn't take to them. I feel just fine about her still taking bottles for now and will try to transition again sometime soon.

When I'm gone, LO drinks two bottles and one sippy. The bottles used to be BM, but with my low supply it's about 1oz BM and 3oz WCM per bottle.

The two bottles are before naps, the sippy is straight WCM at lunch. Very rarely I'll give her WCM when I'm home. Otherwise it's BFing and water sippies. She took to water with no problems.

ETA: I'm trying to get my mom to drop the afternoon bottle right now. Then it will be one bottle, two sippies.

  • We pretty much dropped the bottles on his birthday. It took him a while to drink milk (he has always been fine with water) out of a cup and we noticed he did better with a straw cup. Although I think he does just a regular cup at daycare. Daycare was worried, since all the other babies were getting bottles but he did fine with just the cup.

  • We do Almond milk no cows milk.  But she has been off formula for two months now.  She drinks from a sippy cup (water and almond milk) all day at DC and at home but last bottle of the night is bottle of Almond milk.

  • This is making me feel guilty. Baby girl still has 2 bottles of WCM every day - one at wake up and one at bedtime. She drinks water out of a straw cup but the few feeble attempts i made to give her milk from one she threw it back at me. I haven't had the motivation to keep trying because i love our routine so much. For those of you that took a while to transition, did you ever worry they weren't getting enough milk when they were refusing the cup initially?
  • I guess I'm a little behind on the formula fade out! We still have one whole box left that I'm not about to waste so baby girl is getting formula added to her milk for a little while longer.

Also, when LO was refusing milk to start, my pedi made a point to note that while you can get calcium from a lot of other foods, they don't always have vitamin d (cheese for example). So be sure they are getting enough vitamin D as well.
