Re: N14 Twins Check In (11/3)
N14 Nov. Siggy: CELEBRATION!
Congratulations on your births! My a lot has happened in this short time! I hope to see pics soon and wishing you all safe and speedy recoveries.
I'm wishing those of you still inside smooth sailing. You guys have done great so far and it won't be long before you have your babies in your arms!
My girls are doing great and eating very well. It's time to increase the milk as they are crying for more.
They has their first photo shoot at 12 days. I put a pic below.
N14 Nov. Siggy: CELEBRATION!
@absolutelymaybe @CPM13 @missmolly520 @missvolvo Wishing you all the smoothest end of the road possible. I'll be thinking of you & I can't wait for pictures/updates!
@tiersa_smith Your girls are gorgeous little fashionistas. I seriously need to message you for twin girl fashion tips lol. This mama feels clueless. Too cute!
AFM - Well, just adjusting to life with our girls! We're still in the hospital, but hopefully being released on Wednesday. My blood levels have been screwy from the c-section (my body is apparently having a hard time replacing nutrients/levels from the blood loss), so they're keeping an eye on that. They've started mentioning a transfusion, but hopefully tomorrow brings better levels and it won't come to that.
Both girls are checking out very healthy, hallelujah. We're formula feeding, which has been smooth sailing so far. The nurses here have been a wealth of knowledge. That said, I'm definitely pretty nervous about going home and being "on our own". I'm really hoping the N14 moms can stay in touch in some form & compare notes along the way!
I'll leave you with an "attempting to multitask" picture. Feedings & snuggles!
It's twin girls!! Born on 11-2-14!
So it is great to finally be home from the hospital. My FI is more than excited he sees how hard parenting alone can be.
We are just adjusting over here, The whole family with the exception of the babies has had colds so extra hand washing and sanitizing.
The twins are on a 3hr feeding schedule (FF babes) do my FI and I have been splitting up the feeds at night time, he goes back to work tomorrow so I will be on my own. I am a little nervous, but confident I can handle it. We are closing on our new house next Friday, so I am pumped to get in there. I hope with the extra space and new layout things will go smoother. They also lost their belly button cords yesterday, so they can finally take real bathes!!!
I can't believe all the twins are almost here. Time flew for me during this pregnancy. @absolutelymaybe These check/ins were awesome the whole time you have and continue to be a great moderator of them! Thanks!
@tiersa_smith The girls are so cute!!!! You are awesome!! I feel like I barely have time to change them into PJ's lol and your girls look like models!
@MrsC430 Good luck with the transition home, it can be very nerve wracking, but I am sure after a little while you will get use to it. I hope you get back health wise feeling like crap while missing out on sleep sucks.
I will follow tread with a multiple-tasking moment
N14 Nov. Siggy: CELEBRATION!
Salvatore James and Josephine Rose arrived Monday 11/3 at 38 weeks exactly via c section (because they were breech).
He had been measuring smaller and weighed in at just 5#5oz. His little sister weighed in at 7#3oz. He had low blood sugar at birth so we have been supplementing him with formula but got the green light to wean him off it as of last night. She's a breast feeding champ. They're both far better sleepers than their big sister was at their age. Thank goodness.
They're pretty amazing. The c section recovery kinda sucks but the nurses tell me I'm doing great. Feels fine to walk
N14 Nov. Siggy: CELEBRATION!
Here's my (long!) story: On October 21 I went in for my monthly U/S at 9:30am. The tech tells us baby B has dropped from the 52nd weight percentile to the 17th and the MFM specialist comes in saying they will want to induce that day. Before the appt I was wishing they would tell me I had to deliver, but once I heard that news I was scared for her and so nervous. They transferred me to OB triage and started me on Cervadil at 3pm since my cervix was not "ripe." That had to be left in for 12 hours before taking it out to see if I was starting to dilate and if I'd need further meds. At 2:30am I moved to L&D where they started Pitocin at 3:30am. I have nothing to compare it to since I wasn't having contractions on my own, but that Pitocin was intense. At 6:30am an angel came in the room and gave me an epidural. I could finally rest, and things slowly progressed as I didn't start pushing until 9:40pm. At 10:09pm Miles Vincent was born, they held him up for me to see then took him over for examination. A little rest and after only 5 more counts of ten, Sadie Grace was born at 10:24pm. He weighed 7lbs 2oz and she was 4lbs 10oz. There was a true knot in her cord that caused the growth discordance. Also, the doctor asked if I wanted to see my placenta and I said sure out of curiosity; she held up one and I said that was bigger than I thought it would be, and she goes on to show me two cords and two membranes from the one placenta, so at some point it seems it must've fused together (I didn't ask that at the time, didn't register until later!). In the NICU one of the docs noted there could've been some TTTS going on too along with the knot problem. I had never heard of this with di di twins.
They took Sadie to the NICU after a brief attempt at breastfeeding and Miles roomed in with us the first night. The next morning when we went to visit Sadie, a nurse watched him for us and noted that he was grunting a lot while breathing and was turning blue around his nose and mouth, so he was then admitted to the NICU too. They did a chest X-ray and echocardiogram and found no reason for the apnea episodes and luckily he didn't have an problems with that again. He did have to stay for 6 days due to jaundice and hypoglycemia and an MRI showed a small bleed in his skull.
Sadie was in the NICU for 8 days with hypoglycemia and jaundice and started off with an NG tube for feedings. They did a ton of blood work on her since they were concerned that she may have had too much blood due to the knot and would possibly need a transfusion. Thankfully that was not the issue. She did need to be on oxygen a day or two before she went home as her saturation levels were low and also had a chest X-ray and Echo to check for signs of infection.
Overall, I feel very lucky that their medical problems weren't more serious and we have healthy babies!! It sounds dumb or naive to say this but I wasn't mentally prepared for them having to be in the NICU. Logically I knew it was always a possibility but things seemed to be going so smoothly and my OB never discussed potential complications that could arise so I went around with my rose colored glasses thinking I'd have an easy delivery and take my babies home a few days later. Those 8 days were so stressful and emotional and I'm so happy to be past that.
On a positive note, here are some pictures of my sweet babies!
N14 Nov. Siggy: CELEBRATION!
Breastfeeding is back and forth. Some days I can do long sessions and other times I can't get them to latch at all. We have attempted tandem a few times, sometimes it works sometimes not. I have also started pumping and working on my freezer stash since I have an oversupply.
@ktibbits1 I think my placentas might have fused too, because they came out together, but they didn't say anything about it.
N14 Nov. Siggy: CELEBRATION!
@ktibbits1 they are way too cute! Congrats again!
@IntuitiveBlue I'm with you on the bellefit binder! It's helped bring my tummy down a lot! I used it after having my son Kade and I'm using the same one again. Wishing you a great recovery.
Checking for the updates is so cool. Big kudos to @absolutelymaybe for keeping everything updated and organized. I don't know how you do it!
