High-Risk Pregnancy

Did your HRD act like this?

I was sent to a HRD due to my age (38) and the fact that I have a placenta circumvallate.  From the little I was able to find online, it can be serious.  However, the doctor completely downplayed it and chuckled at my do's and don't questions stating that he has seen worst.  I don't care that he has seen worst... this is my pregnancy and every case is different.  Did anyone else experience this?

Re: Did your HRD act like this?

  • I don't have experience with this particular issue, but I did see a high risk doc for both of my pregnancies.  The two female doctors I saw regularly were amazing, they always asked my opinion for things they were indifferent about to make sure I was comfortable (like if they didn't think I needed another cervix measurement, but were happy to do it if I wanted one).  The male doctor was a jerk, he referred to my daughter that we lost at 22 weeks as a "22 weeker" and said the circumstances in which we lost her "probably wouldn't happen again".  I had an incompetent cervix.  Um, if it's incompetent once, I assume it could/probably be incompetent again.  And probably was not good enough when it comes to the lives of my children.

Unfortunately some doctors only look at the stats and the science of it all, rather than having compassion and understanding how the patient feels.  Who cares if he has seen worse, this is your pregnancy, and you need to feel comfortable.  If you're being rubbed the wrong way by things now, I can imagine they will only continue to happen, so I would find a new doctor ASAP if I were you.  Good luck finding a new doctor and good luck with your pregnancy!
