It's so hard to express to others that you don't like a nn. H really doesn't like a potential nn of our girl name. He wasn't fond of he name because of the nn, but I finally got him to agree to it. Now he loves the name. But I'm worried that if we have a girl, and go with this name, my family will end up using the nn. They are big on nn's. Part of it is all in fun, so it doesn't bother me too much, but i know it will both H if people use the nn. Hopefully if they want to nn her something other than her first name, they go with her middle name. Which is actually my grandmothers name, which they'll love. But we'll have to see in March if we're having a boy or a girl.
My sons given name is actually a nn of a few names I don't like. Every now and then my aunt calls him one of the names, and I know she is a silly nicknamer, so it doesn't bother me so much. But I named him the shortened version for a reason.
