Pregnant after a Loss

Headache question

I just started experiencing pain on the left side of my head that seems to be worse when standing up, bending down, sneezing, laughing, etc. It seems to be affected by a change in blood pressure? Or? I haven't experienced it before and was wondering if anyone else has. I am 8 weeks +3 and just had my blood pressure checked Thursday and it was great.

  • When I was pregnant with my son I had horrible headaches for about a month at the beginning of my second Tri. I agree with @GrailSeeker14‌ as that helped me too. Good luck!!
  • I have been having tension headaches like that. Tylenol and sweet tea help me best. And a heated rice sock on my head.

    ALL WELCOME!

  • I had them earlier in this pregnancy to the point of throwing up. After trying all the normal cures I talked to the doc he gave me an RX. I hate taking meds but after migraine day 6 I was left with no choice. Hope your gets better.
  • Headaches have been a major symptom for me this pregnancy. I've been wanting some caffeine, but I've removed that from my diet for the most part. When I really need some relief, I'll drink half a can of soda and that seems to help. I hope you feel better soon!

  • I had all sorts of headaches during this pregnancy. I would try some Tylenol and caffeine and a cold rag for your head but if you feel something is off it never hurts to call the doctor. Feel better !

  • Headaches suck :( So sorry you are dealing with them. I've noticed I've had an increase in headaches since 11wks. What has worked is drinking a ton of water, massaging the back of my neck, and taking an occasional Tylenol. Hope that helps!

    **All AL Welcome**

  • I had a lot of headaches in the first and second tri.  It was pretty miserable.  Tylenol and about 8oz of regular Coke helped.  So did rubbing Ben Gay Cooling gel on my back and neck muscles. I also used a cold eye pillow for relief.  FWIW I was doing acupuncture through my first tri and it didn't make a dent in the headaches (that I'm aware of at least).  The good news though was that they vanished pretty much completely by mid second tri - seriously poof just gone.  Hang in there!

  • I echo the PPs. Headaches are common in 1st tri due to all the hormone changes.

Since your bp was good, that's ruled out. Never hurts to check your blood pressure again though.

Dehydration can cause headaches. Stay hydrated!

Any big diet changes--like quitting caffeine cold turkey? Could be related to something like this.

Also sinuses. Pregnancy causes congestion and it could be your sinus, esp being one sided.

It's also ok to try Tylenol and see if it helps it.

  • Lots of headaches here, too. Usually a bit of caffeine followed by tons of water take care of it, but I take Tylenol sometimes. As PP have said, it's never a bad idea to call your OB and ask.

  • I had a lot of headaches / migraines towards the end of first tri - like many of the PP's here, I would do tylenol and caffeine - normally that combined with an ice pack and a nap would make it pretty much non-existent.

Definitely talk to your doctor about it if you feel that something is off.

  • I've been getting them as well. 4-8oz caffeine helps me. Tylonal is safe as well.

  • Well the mystery of the headaches may be solved. After a trip to the dentist today for tooth pain that started about a week and a half ago, he told me I am grinding my teeth...on the left side. Same side as the headaches. An email to my doctor yielded a response that said it does not sound uncommon and it sounds like a type of migraine. Since the general consensus is try caffeine I am now drinking a Coke, which is somewhat blissful after 3 months without caffeine.

Thanks for all the help Ladies!
