Time change

How are everyone's kiddos doing with the time change today? Do you expect a difficult evening? I tried to start transitioning the munchkin slowly over the past week so it wouldn't be as hard. Knock on wood but I think it may have worked.

Re: Time change

  • Time change always kicks my butt, but I find changing back the other way harder. The part that really sucks is that it is starting to get dark by 4:30 here, and completely dark by 6 pm.

  • Spring forward has always been the more difficult change for us - the scramble in the morning because the kids slept in.  The kids were up at their normal time, so an hour early, but I expected that.  I don't expect any problem with them going to bed tonight since they were up an hour earlier.

  • My kids just freakishly self adjust. I didn't do anything and the baby woke up at 7:30. I will take it!

DS woke up at 7, which I'll take. Tonight though, we have a few crabby kids. DD has been rubbing her eyes since 4:30 but refused to nap. Finally at 6, it dawned on me that to her it was 7 and bedtime. It was time to nurse anyway and I figured she would fall asleep nursing. So I just gave her a bath and she is nursing and sleeping. Tomorrow I'll try to do better about her adjustment. DS is older and a little easier to keep awake.

Eta: DD cat napped and then went down for the night at 8:45.

  • DD went down for bed no problem, DS is still up reading in bed. I honestly forgot about the time change until now. I changed the clocks last night and haven't thought about it since.

  • I'm almost afraid to post this but lo slept in an hour longer than normal. Then because of our plans today she had a late nap in the car which then caused her to be tired later than normal but is now an appropriate bedtime. Fingers crossed

  • I hope this doesn't change tomorrow but (knock on wood) today went well. Normal naps and normal bedtime. I'm so glad I made the effort to slowly adjust. I can imagine how much harder this could have been, hugs to all of you suffering this evening!

Same for me, both my kids slept until they were supposed to even with an extra hour in bed. I need to knock on some wood somewhere... :)

  • My kids are have a hard time with it. I pick ds from school at 12 & dd usually falls asleep on the way to get him so shes really struggling today. I'm praying she can last till 11:40. Last night everyone including dh was asleep before 8.

  • I'm actually so thankful for the time change! We had gotten into a pretty bad habit of letting him stay up too late (he is a major night owl like daddy!) then sleeping in late in the morning. The mornings are nice for me, but the late nights mean H and I hardly had any time alone together. Totally our fault, but I'm pregnant and too tired to be a bedtime enforcer, haha. The time change had him up earlier than usual and in bed at a reasonable time, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed we can keep it up!

  • I agree, 'falling back' is easier.  I actually welcomed the change this year, kids have been sleeping in lately, which is nice, but then DD doesn't nap.  So since Monday she has been back to napping!
