Baby containment in the bathroom

For quite a while now I've been using the bouncy seat for LO when I need to take a shower. However, she's finally getting mobile enough where I'm scared she will try to climb out of it and hurt herself. So...what are my options?

We aren't supposed to put her in an exersaucer or jumparoo because she's had gross motor delays. I don't want to just lay her on the floor (even on a blanket) because she'd get off if it and dirty bathroom floors. Do I have any other options?

We have a big, deep soaking tub and I was wondering if I could put a big comforter in it for padding and plop her in there, but I assume that's a bad idea?

What are others doing at this point?

  • Loading the player...
  • I try to either shower before she wakes up or when DH is home, but some mornings he leaves before I wake up and LO is awake and I need to shower for work...

I could try the pnp but I'm scared if she can't see me she'll bit tolerate it for long.

I don't think I could fit LO in the shower with me and then wet baby is more to deal with when in a rush!

    Good ideas though...
  • I just had this problem about 20 minutes ago. I needed to shower, but my DH is out running errands, and LO is too wild/big for his bouncy. So I took our highchair (cosco brand folding one) in the bathroom and put him in that. It's not the easiest thing to do, but it worked really well. It also helped that my DS1 was in there entertaining him, but I could have just as easily put some puffs on the tray and kept him happy that way.
  • Pnp, toys, baby Einstein on YouTube, and super speedy shower.

  • @breadpudding‌ I like the high chair idea! It would be kind of annoying because the kitchen is downstairs, but we have the ikea high chair that's super lightweight.

  • Ha! @Madisonpenny‌ If I ever leave LO in the crib alone she flips shit. I wish she would play quietly and fall asleep! :)
  • i put him in his crib with some toys and take a super quick shower and if LO freaks out he freaks out. but its got to be done.
@dreamingbabies is your toilet in a separate area than your shower? ours is right next to the shower and letting LO on the floor means he will instantly pull himself up on the toilet and start playing with the lid and trying to reach inside the play with the water. totally grosses me out.

  • @DreamingBabies‌ Well, I guess they're pretty dirty! They aren't really that bad, but I figure the stuff that could be on bathroom floors is worse than the rest of the house -- poo particles, pee, etc. LO doesn't crawl so maybe that's why I'm still reluctant -- sure she chews on toys that fall on the floor downstairs, but she's yet to be licking the kitchen floor. I guess when she reaches that point my reservations will go out the window?
  • @greenbunny79‌ I don't think the pnp will fit, but I like the idea of a basket or box...we could give that a go!
  • I tried to let her roam around the bathroom once, and she flipped her shit and tried to get in the shower with me, and almost ended up pulling the shower curtain down on us both. At our new house we have a sliding glass door thing so I might be willing to try that again.

Another time I tried bringing her in with me, but something about the water falling on her head was apparently NOT okay.

I shower while she's napping or when my H is home. Sorry I'm not more help!

  • @DreamingBabies‌ No matter how much bleach or disinfectant I use, I will never be okay with LO putting his mouth on the toilet. Which is exactly what would eventually happen. He pulls up on things, then his mouth goes right down to whatever he is on.

Plus, even if he didn't do that, he'd try to pull down the shower curtain. It's his life goal to get his little hands on it. ;)
  • We have a glass shower in our bathro, so I can see how having a curtain would be different. I never thought about the toilet and mouth - because DD just crawls over to the shower and stares at me through the glass. #noprivacy #sorryifisoundedjudgey

Ya right. You totally judged us all and our dirty bathrooms. ;) :P
  • LO plays on the bathroom floor anytime I'm in there, with the exception of when I shower (either DH is home or lo is asleep). Moty? Maybe. But when you gotta go, you gotta go.

  • Em crawls and pulls herself up on everything, and we have a tiled floor....I shower with the bathroom door open and shut her in the nursery using the stair gate. More often than not I get out of the shower to find Dexter the cat sitting on the other side of the stairgate teasing Em :)
  • I'm with @BMBrinson‌.

Take the baby in the shower with you! I'm actually surprised more of you don't do that.

    Clean mom+clean kid=win.
