I intro'd a couple weeks ago, but to recap... DH and I got our 1st ever BFP with IVF#1. Then, at my check-up on 10/1, we discovered that our little boy's heart stopped beating sometime in the days before. I delivered him (with assistance of vaginal Cytotec Q6H in hospital) on 10/3 at 19 weeks. It has now been 4 weeks, and I'm still bleeding. Some days it's just spotting (really just when I wipe), and then over the past couple days (and off-and-on since I went home) it's been heavier and needing a pad (sorry for TMI). That typically only lasts 1-2 days, and then back to spotting. My OB told me that I should expect to bleed from 2-4 weeks. I am planning to call her office Monday since I'm sure this will still be going on, but I wanted to hear others' experiences. How long did you bleed for after your loss? Did you have to go back in for D&C or repeat Cytotec? How long after the bleeding finally stopped did you get AF?
Thanks!

My loss was at 20 weeks and I was induced with Cytotec like you. I bled a lot the first week and then it all but went away for about 2 weeks. It then came back VERY heavy. I had planned to return to work the next week from my disability leave, so I called my OB (didn't want to go back too soon). I went back in for an ultrasound and my OB could still see some retained blood and products. It wasn't enough to require a D&C but she put me on Methergine for 3 days to help pass the rest of it. Not the most pleasant experience but not horrible. That was enough to get me to the point where I wasn't bleeding any more.
I'd definitely call Monday and see if they can do a scan. I had a second loss at 15 weeks where I was induced the same way and my bleeding only lasted a week. I know everyone's experience is different but it would be worth a look to me. Good luck- I'm so sorry for your loss.

The big fear with early deliveries is retained placenta. It is very, very common. Has your bleeding included any clots? If they are larger than a golf ball (I believe that was the size) definitely call your doctor. I would still call on Monday to let her know that you have had continued bleeding this entire time. My post-delivery appointment was at 4 weeks so I would think your doctor would be wanting to check you out soon anyways.
@PinkCamino did end up needing a D&C after her delivery. I'll let her share her story if she feels up to it.
Finally, it is okay to ask the receptionist or nurse to have you put into an exam room as soon as you arrive. I would do this when you schedule the appointment. The doctor's office was an incredibly emotional place to visit in the first few months post-loss. Lot's of ((((hugs)))).
The day the Bump died - Jasper is wise
I delivered twin girls at 20w5d with the use of cytotec to induce labor. My bleeding was very minimal and only lasted a couple of days. I thought I was in the clear but 3 weeks to the day of my loss I started to bleed uncontrollably and needed to have an emergency D&C because there was retained tissue.
I would definately call your doctor and look into it. It could very well be normal but if it's not and there is some retained tissue it's best to deal with it before it becomes and emergency.
