Pregnant after a Loss

Freak out and possibly switching Drs...

I guess freak out first. LOs HR hasn't been very consistant. Each time I hear it it's reassuring but today just made me worry. HR so far has been 156, 150, 150, 146 yesterday, 130 today. I know anything between 110 and 160 is normal but the fact that that is such a major difference in just over 24 hours scares me. Dr didn't seem concerned at all but it's concerning to me. I'm going to check him again tomorrow with my doppler and hopefully it's gone back up. I can feel him so that's good but the HR still scares me.

The biggest reason I want to switch Drs is because A) they never seem concerned about anything, my appointments are 15 minutes or less. B) my main Dr is just so inconvenient! It's like 25-30 minutes away while my MFM Dr is 5 minutes from my house, as is the main hospital MFM branches from. It's just a matter of switching my insurance and finding a Dr to take me at 20 weeks with my insurance. Something to look into next week for sure.

Re: Freak out and possibly switching Drs...

  • Are you talking about the heartrate on your home doppler? Mine is always all over the place. Or are these "official" readings from an US tech/doctor? The rate can fluctuate. I know it's easy for me to say, but I would try not to worry. The heartrate does peak at a high rate early on then start to get a little lower. If your doctor is not worried, I would take that as reassurance. :)

As for switching OBs- if you're not comfortable with the care you're receiving, then it's something to consider. In my experience, they don't get flustered very easily and things that are often concerning to me/us are things they've seen a 1000 times and they know it's more normal than we think. All of my appointments with prior pregnancies have been about 10-15 minutes- they listen to the HB and measure my belly. Ask if I have any questions. And we're done.

But all of that means nothing if you aren't happy with your doctor. I hope you can find a practice that better meets your needs. :)

  • @asglover514 most of my appointments are 15 minutes or less as well.  But I don't often have a lot of questions so there's not much chatting to be had.  Do you ask questions and/or feel that your doctor dismisses your concerns?

  • @mpiemont Those are all from the Dr. At home mine usually reads about the same, of course last time he was all over the place and wouldn't sit still to get an accurate reading. Thanks for the information about the Drs. I know they see the same thing over and over again, then they have freak out crazies like me that worry about everything lol.

  • @peggles24 I think the biggest thing is that they told me since MFM is doing pretty much everything they're only seeing me every so often because I'm supposed to deliver at my main Dr and not the hospital MFM is at. I'd much rather deliver with the hospital that has MFM because if anything happens they have the best NICU and L&D in the area.

  • @qwanda2013 I should be happy they don't seem concerned. I guess it's just PgAL brain that doesn't help with that.

  • I'm sorry for the freak out. Was your LO awake (that you know of) when yesterday's readings were taken? He could have just been sleeping today when the 130 was taken. With that said, though, if you don't feel like your doctor is taking your concerns seriously, then absolutely find one who will. And that way you can also find one who will deliver at your MFM's hospital. I don't blame you for preferring the one with the top rated nicu.

  • My dr comes in for 15 mins or less too. My DD's heart rate has been 120-160's he said its based on movement and if they are sleeping. Everything looks great, I would try not to worry. You have to remember Dr's aren't gonna brush off OB concerns to often because it is the highest area of malpractice;)

  • @KJsbabe Yesterday was an ultrasound he wasn't doing much during it. The tech had a really hard time getting all the measurements she needed because he was uncooperative. It looked to me like he was napping because he wasn't moving much just kind of chilling but I don't really know. Today was just a doppler so I'm not sure what he was up too.

Thanks for all the input ladies!!
