Who is already thinking and planning LOs first bday?! We need to find a place to rent to have it since Ohio weather isn't always predictable- last year we had snow into May! So outdoors is out of the question and our house is too small. A couple places are already booked for the one weekend I wanted.
Our theme is cupcakes! I'm gonna do a decorate your own cupcake bar and her smash cake is going to be one of those giant cupcakes.
Wow. Not even thinking about this yet. More power to you, momma, but I probably won't even think about any of this till at least after the holidays. More likely a month or two before, if I'm honest. I love looking at pics of other people's planning/inspiration tho.
The thought has crossed my mind but I haven't really done any planning or deep thinking about it yet. I think I will start planning more after the holidays as well.
No.. This is another let them be babies thing.. We will blink and it will go by so fast so I'm waiting and enjoying it all now! Like PP said more power to ya!
I haven't done anything other than vaguely think about it. DS was born May 1st, so his first birthday is also his golden birthday. First birthdays are special enough on their own, but I was thinking if incorporating something gold into the theme - like chocolate golden coins as favors for a pirate themed party. That said, the party itself won't be a huge production. Just family, some decorations, and watching DS tear into some cake.
I have pinned a few things but that's about it. I don't even want to think about her being a year yet I can't believe she's almost 6 months!! Where does the time go? I suppose 6 months crept up on me so a year probably will too.
I've been pinning stuff on Pinterest, but that's it. I won't know what theme I want until it gets closer. We'll be having a party at our house with just all family so I don't have to worry about booking a place. I am excited for it though.
I'm friends with a few moms in my area whose babies have just turned one or will be in the next few months and they've all rented halls, mailed out custom invites, gotten caterers, etc, but I just don't know enough people in the area that would warrant doing a big birthday (all family and many friends far, far away). DH and I discussed having a small gathering at our place that would be suitable for our friends who don't have kids too, with a Hawaiian theme. Everyone can dress up and the adults can have a few drinks and the babies can play and then go for naps, haha. I'm not really into the over-the-top parties for kids so even doing this much will be sufficient, in my opinion.
What is going on??? Renting halls and sending out formal invites for a one year old?? I'm confused!
This is how DD1's 1st birthday went down. About 2 weeks before we figured we should do something for her birthday. Emailed a few friends, ordered a small cake, invited my downstairs neighbors with their 2 kids. We had 7 people in our 700sqft condo having a good time drinking on a Sunday afternoon. DD1 had a blast and ate her first cake!
No...not even close. I figure I will start planning right after DS1's birthday in February. That should be plenty of time. Unfortunately LO's bday is the Friday of Memorial Day weekend so I worry people will be out of town and not able to come to a party. But oh well.
yeah i'm a lazy underachiever so DS first birthday will not be pinterest worthy. There will probably just be DH and maybe a couple friends. I do plan on making all DS birthday cakes though since I like to bake and I always loved that my mum made all my cakes, it felt special.
It's a big thing on my DH's side. It's the only party where they invite ALL aunts and cousins. I counted that we would have over 70 people with both sides. I was helping my friend look for places to have her sisters shower and just looked into availability for end of April beginning of May and some places are already booked up- I was shocked. Which made me start thinking about her party. I haven't bought anything for it- I have Pinterest board for it.
We don't normally throw big parties but since it's on a Saturday I think I'd like to do something. I realize it's really a party for me. But hey, maybe after a year of not sleeping through the night, pumping at work, and having to dress myself in 5 minutes or less, I deserve a party.
In my husband's family baptism are huge -- as in, rent a hall, get a DJ, send invitations. We didn't do that, we had immediate family only, so it would be nice to have something with our friends and their kids.
Right now talking about Christmas saddens me- my in laws are saying that Christmas is cancelled due to some family drama. So I'm all confused on what to do with that. I won't buy anything until after the holidays so I can spread out the expense of it within the 4 months.
I pretty much had DD1's first birthday party planned (via Pinterest and Etsy) by the end of my maternity leave haha. This time around, I have a theme picked out and a Pinterest board, but I don't have the specifics yet (which invites, outfit, cake, etc.). We tend to go a bit overboard for birthday parties.. I realize I am a little crazy haha.
Nope. But then again I'm an old-fashioned (and just plain old) curmudgeon. And our family and best friends are all far away. I'm going to try to not have a real birthday party at least until she starts school. And even then by real I mean old school - have a few of her friends over, do a few games, run around outside, eat some ice cream and some (home-made) cake-shaped cake, call it good. And then she will see a shrink when she is grown up because her mommy didn't love her enough to make her a coral reef cake and rent an ocean-themed bounce house and do a mermaid photo shoot with a professional photographer etc. etc. Augh!!!!!

I've been thinking about it. I have a theme in mind and I know we'll do it at our house. But mostly I've been thinking about it because I want to hire a photographer for the party and the one I want to hire is typically booked out really far in advance. My idea is to get through the holidays and then start planning in January. A college friend organized the most beautiful 1st bday party for her son and by hiring someone to take pictures she was able to get a lot of really good shots of things I don't want to miss. Considering we may be 1 and done I'm good with going all out.
I also don't think you are crazy. I have a pintrest board and theme in mind. We will have to book somewhere because we are going to do it in our hometown where all the family is (we live about 300 miles away). I am going to make a big deal out of it, he only has one first birthday and I understand it is more for us them him but we had a may baby turned March and had a bit of a rocky start so I really want to celebrate how lucky we are.
Friends of friends had a petting zoo for their LOs first birthday...we won't be going that far!
My first son had a John Deere theme and my second had a Very Hungry Caterpillar. I'm not sure what I'll do with my third! I probably won't start thinking about it until January!

Is a cake smash what I think it is?
DS's party will be us + immediate family + cake.
