Soo... I am bursting at the seams with excitement here!!!
I am getting a puppy. But... it's not like a normal puppy I am raising a puppy for Canine Companions for Independence. They are a group that breeds and raises assistance dogs for various types of disabilities and also wounded vets. The hard part of course is eventually I will give him up after about 14-16 months. But... the outcome is obviously so rewarding. They have a cute little graduation for the dogs when they get their new owners and wear little caps and I bawl like a little baby.
Anyway... his name is Callejo and he's a black lab and he's arriving on Nov 14th!!!! I can't wait to show you guys photos but here's what a CCI dog looks like:
I know, right?
This is about to be quite an adventure but I have been applying for over a year now so I am excited to have this opportunity
That's so cool! Congratulations!
DH tried to get me involved with something like this but once a dog gets in my house it never leaves! Lol
Yeah..... that's how my husband feels. The graduation rate is only at 40% so if the dog does not graduate we have a chance to keep it. However, I want my dog to graduate.
I have a couple friends that do this. One has an adorable black lab that is about to go to "college" for more specialized training. I only see her about once a week and I am crushed about her leaving! I could never do what you do!
That is awesome! My mom uses a service dog and it is the most rewarding thing ever. She couldn't function without one and people like you make it possible. Thank you! Labs are so sweet!
This is exactly what I am doing it for. I love it. And I am honored to be part of it.
Congrats and applause to you, @garnetandgoldgrace! I'm looking forward
to seeing your new puppy pictures when he arrives in a couple weeks!

That is awesome! When I got my seizure disorder diagnosis the first thing my grandma did was to research if there were dogs that could detect seizures/help people with this disorder. (There are, but way too expensive.) I think it is so wonderful that you are doing this!! Whoever gets this little guy when you are finished training him is a very lucky person )
