1) when you get a positive preg test and call a new obgyn, would it be normal for them to not request a blood test to confirm?
2) obviously a question for a doc BUT if you were going to be 7.5 weeks pregnant at the time of the Houston Half Marathon and had planned to walk it,would you still do it? no real training involved...walked the full distance once in dec and have sporadically walked 1-3 miles a couple days a week.
Re: 2 hypothetical questions
1. ?Depends on the ob. ?I had a blood test with the first but my ob with this pregnancy didn't even want to see me until I was 10 weeks. ?I think that's fairly standard if you have no reason to suspect problems.
2. ?I probably would. ??
1) My OB did not do a blood test to confirm. They said the digital tests are so accurate that if you have a normal pregnancy (no prior issues) you do not need them and they don't need to see you right away.
2) yes!
Yeah... it probably would... and I think a blood test would be a good thing. More definitive.
2) I would. As long as everything was going along normally... then walking half marathon should be fine.
1. pretty normal unless you have history of miscarriage
2. I'd walk it...I have a friend that ran it at 18 weeks pregnant. Depends on your fitness level really.
1. That is fairly common, depending on your dr. My dr. does bloodwork, though.
2. If I felt comfortable doing it and that it wouldn't be too hard on me. I am very out of shape in general, so I would have to be somewhat comfortable walking such a distance before I'd do it! lol
1. Yes, totally common not to do anything until your first appt somewhere between 6 and 10 weeks.
2. I'd do it, but prepare to be totally exhausted afterwards.
Hypothetically, congrats?

hypothetical... interesting
1. like pp said, normal unless you have a history of m/c or have had TTTC
2. yes, but i would be sure to practice as much as possible ahead of time. my OB has always said that it's fine to keep up your regular pace of exercise but you should not increase it during pg.
1. I did not receive a blood test on my 1st "pg" appt. She did do an U/S to measure how far along I was, though, b/c I had no idea when my last period was - so there was a confirmation of the baby, then.
2. I would prob. do it - as long as you aren't straining yourself. Just make sure to be prepared to pull yourself out if you are feeling too tired or faint, etc.
1. Yes, completely normal. I did not have blood work done for either baby.
2. Yes.
Hypothetically speaking, I hope this is good news for you and D!
1. Yes. A lot of doctors don't want to see you until about 8 weeks if you got pregnant without assistance. Those home pregnancy tests are the same as the ones they use. Though, every once in awhile an OB will want to see you sooner. And obviously (hypothetically) call if you have any issues (spotting, etc).
2. Yes. If you are used to walking this distance, I would go for it. You can continue to do anything your body is used to doing before you got pregnant. I danced full out with both pregnancies well into the 3rd trimester (leaps, turns, tap dancing, etc). And I know of several people who have run a 1/2 marathon when pregnant.
1. My doc never did a blood test to confirm that I was pregnant...actually neither did. I switched docs shortly after I found out I was pregnant.
2. I totally would. Of course talk to your doc, but if you are in good enough shape and feel comfortable doing it, go for it!
I am hypothetically smiling and wishing a hypothetical congrats.
