PR related: Naptime/Quiet time for preschoolers

Reese is pretty much done with naps. Maybe once a week she will nap, and usually that is if we are in the car. For those that implement an hour of quiet/rest time (because I still want a break!) how do you do it? What time is it? Are they just in their room for the hour, or on their bed?

Tell me more about it!

Re: PR related: Naptime/Quiet time for preschoolers

  • I still send my girls to their rooms for nap time. Sometimes they sleep, but they usually don't. I have them grab some books, and I will go up if they get too noisy. They don't have to stay in bed as long as they are quiet.

  • Shortly after lunch we do quiet time. She has to go to her room for 1-2 hours. She can play, read, whatever but she needs to leave mom alone. Right now I actually do rest in my bed while she is, so I explain to her that mom is having a rest even if she isn't and she needs to let mom rest. She only has a few quiet toys in there like blocks. Sometimes if mom really needs a break she gets the iPad and that'll keep her busy for a long time.

  • Sometimes I will let him get in my bed and snuggle and he will fall asleep.  Usually he falls asleep in the car running errands so I talk on the phone.

  • It started with books in bed, sometimes she would sleep, sometimes not.  Now that she's older (just turned 7), in the past year or so we have been allowing quiet play, books, or craft projects that she can bring up (markers, paper, etc.), but always in her room.  Otherwise it's not a break for me!  Also, she's created some really creative things on her own and I know if she'd been near me, she would have wanted my input and help.
