I just got word from my OB/gyn that my AMH level is .1. They told me to not change any meds and referred me to a fertility specialist. I am 42 (43 in Jan) and just got married. I am worried about this process, as they are already talking in-vitro, which I am not sure I have the emotional ability to go through that. Having just got married, we certainly don't have the money. I guess my question is how others have dealt with this. I am reading articles that a VIT D difficiency can cause low numbers, which I have. I'm just now able to talk about it without crying. Any advise?

I also have a low AMH. <.16 which tends to indicate Diminished Ovarian Reserve. Yes, it is scary. I believe you need to compare this number with your FSH to put it in better context. You (we) are on the older side. Do talk to an RE. I have been able to get pregnant several times (with losses) and that, according to my doc, is more important than the number alone. This AMH number has gained and lost importance over the last 3 decades and now they have decided (in the last year or two) that it is a good indicator again of ovarian health. They may also test you at the RE to see how many follicles you have on CD3. They want to see more than 5 any given month (mine this month was 2!!)
If you can get pregnant will be a main indicator in whether IVF may be a good option. I was told to start taking a baby aspirin, CoQ10, and a prenatal (and yes, with D, 2500). I've been taking prenatals for years now! I also just started taking chinese herbs today--you might want to look into that. It is my understanding that there is no magic bullet that will increase the health of your eggs, but that these things can help. It supposedly takes 3 cycles for this stuff to kick in, but we aren't waiting.
I also am very afraid of IVF due to the emotional response to the hormones. My RE said that as I can get pregnant easily, that there was no better or worse chance of having a healthy pregnancy with or without IVF (good news) and that they didn't think they would be able to get good eggs if they tried (bad news). Everybody else will tell you that these docs don't really know and my RE said the same thing. They really don't know. Feel free to PM me. And don't freak out! There is always hope! Stay positive and know you are not alone!!
