What will baby sleep in as a newborn?

Trying to do a survey as I keep waffling on this. Wondering if I could get some feedback on who is planning on using a bassinet, co-sleeper, pack'n'play, crib, etc.

It seems like all of the literature recommends baby flat on their backs, but obviously you find out when they are born if there are reflux issues for discomfort, etc. FTM and STM plans? Thanks!

I used a rock n play last time and we still have it, I am really going back and froth because a part of me really wants to get the new Halo Co Sleeper bassinet. It just looks uber convenient!

That's what we're doing, too. Might add a bassinet attachment if we need to, but as long as he's close, I think we'll all be happy. Pack n play by the bed for us.

She'll be in our room in a bassinet in the beginning :) No idea how long until we're there.

Stm. Pack n play next to bed. We used the rock n play with DS and it worked great, but the transition to the crib at 5 months was horrible. So we're going to try to avoid that. We will use rock n play for naps and short times only. That's our plan. I can totally see our resolve breaking and using rnp at night in order to get a little bit of sleep.

FTM I plan to get the halo bassinet as i think it will be the most convenient for me. I don't know how long she will be in that though. We got a pack n play but I am going to keep that downstairs so that when I go back to work my mom can just get her from that instead of carrying her down the stairs.

Have a couple options available (or backup plans in your mind). We bought a beautiful wooden bassinet for my first and he refused to sleep in it. About to lose my mind by night 3, we stuck him in the newborn napper of the pack and play and he did much better. Tried to transition from that to the flat pack and play when he grew out of it, again with struggles, so we moved to a rock and play. He just liked sleeping at an angle.

STM here - We used the rock n play with my DS, He loved it. It is small enough to keep close by my bed, but easy to move to his room when we both started keeping each other awake at night. The transition from the rock n play to his crib was rough for about a week when he was around 4 months, but I am thinking this is the way I will go with my little one on the way.

If she is in our room either the Pack N Play or Rock N Play. If I stay in her room, then she'll be in the crib. DH snores and will have to wake up at the crack of dawn for work, so I'm thinking it might be better if we don't have to wake to his alarm.

We are again using a bassinet in our room for the first few months. We will make sure to put her in her crib to play and/or nap so that she gets used to it.

Also this. And also because our son will still be in the crib when baby comes, I see no need to get a second crib, so pack n play it is.

For those using a pack n play are you using a mattress at the bottom or a newborn napper attachment?

For those that transitioned from rock n play to crib, did you also change rooms at the same time? Or is the difficulty more from being at an angle to going flat?

We have two options, a bassinet near our bed, and a pack n play in our room as well. My DS slept in bed with us, he wouldn't go down anywhere else. So this time using the bassinet for closeness but will not be in the bed with us. Hopefully it works so we can transition her to the crib a little later on.

We are going to use the Rock N Play by our bed. This is what we did for DS and we had no issues transitioning to the crib. We did use the Baby Merlin's Magic Sleep Suit during the transition and I think it really helped.

STM - she will sleep in her own crib from day one. For the first couple of months I will sleep on a mattress on the floor in her room. That way DH gets uninterrupted sleep and can help out more around the house and with DS.

FTM here, but we'll be attempting directly to crib first. If that doesn't work out, we'll come up with a new plan. We don't have space in our room for anything else and baby's room is directly next to ours.

A lot of times it comes with an insert so it's raised up higher, and we used that with a waterproof pad, plus padded pack n play sheet, since the base is pretty much just like stiff cardboard. After he passed the weight limit for that, then he was down in the bottom. The "newborn napper" attachment that goes on TOP of the pack n play I don't think is recommended for over-night sleeping.

With DD she slept in the Pack-n-play in our room for 6 weeks, but I would prop it up, she hated being flat. We moved her to her own room and in a flat crib at 6 weeks and she did fine, although she didn't sleep through the night until 10 months. With this one, I still have a PnP, but also bought a Rock n Play. I hope LO likes it becuase it's smaller, and won't take up as much room at the bedside. Plus I can move it to the living room for naps and what not.

For dd we tried pack n play by bed she refused to sleep in it. So we got a cosleep bassinet that didn't work ended up a lot of nights of her first month sleepy by in living room in her swing. So this time around we got a rock n play fingers crossed.

We had DD in our room in the napper attachment of the pack n play for about 6 weeks, then the bassinet of the pnp for another 6-8 weeks, then to her crib around 4 months.

We no longer have the napper part but we still have a pnp with bassinet and a rock n play. I'm of the "wherever he'll sleep best is fine with me" camp, so we'll do what works until it's time for his crib. We will probably transition to the crib a little later this time because it will mean sharind a room with DD.

I plan on using either our bassinet or the rock and play. My daughters have had pretty bad reflux and we tried the rock and play, but it honestly didn't help.

With this one we will see what she tolerates best and go with that.

We got a little travel bassinet. I wanted something small that I could easily take into the living room or office. He'll either sleep in our room or we'll sleep in his (there's a double bed in there). When he's too big for the bassinet, he'll just go in his crib and whether or not we stay in the room with him will depend on how old he is when it happens.

At night, our intention is to put her in her crib in her room (across the hall) - however, we have the rock n play if there is a reflux issue or if we just find it easier to have her in our room.

The PNP will be set up downstairs for when my MIL watches baby as I do not want her going up and down stairs with the baby.  We may use it for naps or we may decide it is worth bring it upstairs and putting it in our room.  We're flexible but our intention is to start her out in her room

We used an arm's reach co-sleeper bassinet with DD, and I really liked it, so we'll plan to use it again this time. With DD, though, we ended up holding her at night while sleeping for the first 2-3 weeks, and then she slept in a swing next to the bed for another 6-8 weeks. Then we were able to get her into the bassinet. I'm hoping we can get this LO into the bassinet from the start, but we'll see.

We moved DD into the crib in her room when she was 5 months old, and it really wasn't an issue at all. If anything, I think at that point she started sleeping a little better. Earlier on, though (around 12 weeks or so), it was better having her in the bassinet.

For my daughter we went back and forth between her my little lamb swing which is super cozy and has a night light thing on it which makes stars around the room. I loved it because when I had to get up with her I just hit the button and I could see everything and she slept miraculously in it. She had pretty bad reflux so although we did TRY the pack n play most nights it made me nervous that she would throw up and choke on it...ftm problems..
My daughter uses her PNP in the living room for tv time etc when we are doing stuff so I am not planning on using that in my room. I will probably use the swing or if need be go out and buy a co-sleeper basinet thing that goes next to the bed, not in bed. It wasn't a hard transition for us from the swing to her crib but she's always been a pretty good sleeper. I imagine this child will be different so we'll be ready to roll with whatever he needs to get some sleep :)

We have a Pack N' Play Lite that was given to us (bassinet size PNP) that we will use in our room at the beginning. I plan to transition her to her own room and crib before I go back to work though. We also have a regular PNP that will be downstairs for naps and changes.

We used a cradle next to our bed with DS, but it was low to the ground and was kind of uncomfortable for me to bend over for a few weeks. I think this time we'll just use the pack and play in our room. We have a bare bones one that secures the mattress about 1 ft from the top. Then you can move it down once baby is rolling. We ended up moving DS out of our room at about 8-10 weeks because he was a noisy sleeper and we were all waking each other up. His room was just across the hall though, so it wasn't too big of a deal.

FTM - Bassinet in our room, as it's the only thing that will fit. If that doesn't seem to be working, we have a rock n play and a crib as back up plans.

We have my grandmother's old crib - she calls it a little crib or a three month crib. Baby girl will sleep in that for the first few months at night, and in her crib in the nursery for nap. When she is sleeping longer at night, we will move her to the crib in the nursery at night as well.
