Buildup?

CD moms: I'm having repelling issues. Picked up Clara from the babysitters and she said she leaked twice today. Got home and changed her and about 45 minutes later she and I were wet, but her diaper was dry. I poured some water on it and it beaded up and slid around (picture below). Been using the same NB AIOs for 8.5 weeks. Wash routine: cold water rinse x 2, hot wash with 2 cold water rinses. Small load, Tide original powder up to line 1, wool dryer balls in dryer. We use Earth Mama Angel Baby Baby Butt Balm on occasion (but it says it's CD safe). Thinking I need to strip, but want to make sure my wash routine isn't wonky.

We don't have hard water (I used a test strip when pregnant to test). I do smallest load setting and make sure it's stew consistency. I wash every other day (didn't load up on too many NB diapers - never dreamed we'd still be in them this long).

I'm kind of wondering if she's peeling faster then they can absorb. Unfortunately her little 19th percentile thighs aren't chunky enough to move to our OS diapers. Try adding a baby washcloth to add absorbency?

Thoughts?

Re: Buildup?

  • What kind of diaper is it? Do you see any suds pr gray water in your final rinse?

  • I would try the OS diapers for fit. Ds is a tiny thing (about 18 pounds at 1.5 years). He didn't hit 10 pounds until he was about 3ish months old...and was still only around 12 pounds at 6 months old.....but he was fitting in Best Bottoms and the OS Kawaii pockets I have by 2-4 months.

  • Thanks for the tips, ladies. She definitely has no leg gaps - I usually wonder if they're too tight. I hot stripped 1 load last night and I'll play with fitting my different brand OS on her this weekend. She has definitely out peed them in the past but has been doing fine in them lately. It's the soaked onesie and bone dry diaper that got me worried my wash routine is messed up.

  • I'm guessing you've just outgrown the absorbency.

  • No smells right?  I just can't see that much buildup occurring in 8 weeks that would result in repelling like that.  More than likely the diapers are too small.

No, no smells. No leaks today at all...
