POLL: Would you do this?

I posted down below about how our DCP was admitted to the hospital, and we have no idea how long she will be there. I have to take a mandatory business trip (as in, if I don't take it, I lose my job) tomorrow until Sunday. DH really has to go to work those days -- he just took a ton of time off when the three of us were really sick over the holidays. I called our local childcare council, and they gave me the name of a woman who accepts emergency drop-ins.

I spoke to her on the phone, and she sounds really sweet, really nice -- I got good vibes, you know?. I'm going to meet with her this afternoon and see how it goes. Is this something you would consider doing? I hate the idea of just leaving DS with a stranger all day long, but I felt that way too when he first starting going to DCP, and now she's like a member of the family. I'm going to ask for references when I meet with the temp DCP today.

For what it's worth, she's about 5 minutes from DH's office, so he could probably always check in. We have no family who can take care of DS this week, and there are no drop-in centers around us that can take him.

Re: POLL: Would you do this?

  • Does your DCP not have anyone she can refer you to, that she knows & trusts and would have a longer history with?

  • Could you give her a call back and request references from parents that have used her as emergency drop in or that use her on a daily basis?  I would do that and then call the parents before meeting with her for references.  If they check out and you get a good vibe when you get there/meet her then I would do it.

Unfortunately, I can't get in touch with her. I think she may be in the ICU -- her daughter wasn't very clear (she's just a teenager).

  • Because you really have no other options I would.  She has other children all day, right?  Other parents must trust her, right?  But I would thoroughly check her out by talking with other parents, references, and have your DH stop by whenever he can.  Good luck!

  • Do you know any SAHM that would be willing to keep your DC for you?  If you don't have any choices then I guess I would.  I would have DH drop in for a "surprise visit" a few times though.
