@bluebird00toast and preserves is a treat...what have our lives come to??!
I totally get it though. It was a sad day when I could no longer put preserves on my pb sandwiches.
2. Anything new on the medical front (doctor appointments, nonstress tests, ultrasounds) this week?
Had a NST on Monday which showed regular contractions and was sent to the hospital. Hospital confirmed that I was having regular contractions so I ended up getting 2 shots to stop contractions and a steroid shot for LO's lungs in case she comes early. Officially on bed rest now. Oh and contractions just felt like the baby moving but apparently because they were so regular it was not good.
3. How are you feeling in general?
Feeling fine now that I am on bed rest and relaxing. Hoping LO stays put and cooks.
4. Any issues with your numbers, meds, or food intake?
The shots to stop contractions apparently spike my sugar levels. The endo was not concerned and only upped my night time insulin from 10 units to 15 units.
GTKY: How are you going to handle Halloween candy and treats this week?
Haven't even bought candy yet. But since I am a baker I have snuck a few M&Ms and secretly laughing because they did not spike my sugars.
@pchung That is scary. Keep that baby cooking! I was on terbutaline for a week with DD2 because of contractions, and it raised my blood sugars too. Known issue with those types of meds.
@bluebird00 I can't do a lot of GF alternatives because rice and corn tend to raise my sugars more than other grains. I wonder if it's doing the same to you?
WFD: Chinese. I'm getting ours gluten free and I'm eating the entrees without the rice. It's a really nice option for us.
As for third trimester hormone surges, here's a screen shot of my GD tracking app, showing my sugars for the past week:
Guess who had a lot of BH and slept all weekend? Corresponds to Baby Q's growth spurt, along with the accompanying hormone surge. I love this app, because I can see the hormone surge trends.
Had my appt today. Our little man is measuring a week ahead which my Dr said was NBD. His head however, was measuring in the 88th percentile which is going to be fun. He is head down and passed his first NST with no problems.
I have been having a lot of BH and pressure for the past few weeks. She checked my cervix and thankfully no dilation but she put me on modified bed rest and pelvic rest just to be safe. I have no clue how I am going to do it since H NEEDS to work and my mom can't come yet because her SO just started chemo again, but it is what it is.
My numbers have been low the past few days. I've been "celebrating" with a glass of chocolate milk or apple cider. I'm loving these good hormone surges.
And a little AW of our little man sticking out his tongue.
@paigep8 My hormone surges always make my numbers higher. So, the 24th and 25th, I had some numbers that were too high and all my numbers trended higher, even though I ate adhering to the diet. I also did a lot of sleeping and my bump got bigger, so for me those are all signs of the baby having a growth spurt. And you can see all my numbers starting to trend back down afterwards to all clump around 100.
Im 32 + 4. Saw the mfm dr today. My lo is in the 88th percentile. They gave me a weight of 5 lbs 4 oz. I am measuring about 2 weeks ahead of where I am. Had my first NST and other than him being a big boy everything seems to be pretty normal with him. My BP is creeping up a little more so they Are having me repeat all of my pre e testing. But dr was happy with my blood sugar readings, so that is good.
Gluten-Free Orange Chocolate Chip Scones
1 1/3 c GF all-purpose flour (I used Bob's Red Mill)
1 c almond meal flour (I used Bob's Red Mill)
1 Tbsp baking powder
3/4 tsp salt
3/4 tsp xanthan gum
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 c mini GF chocolate chips (I used these I found at Whole Foods)
1/2 c (1 stick) cold butter, cut into small pieces
1/4 c agave nectar (you can use honey if you like)
1/2 c orange juice
1 Tbsp orange zest (optional)
Preheat oven to 400°F/200°C.
Combine flours, baking powder, salt, xanthan gum, and baking soda in a large bowl. Add chocolate chips and toss to combine.
Cut butter into flour mixture with a pastry blender or two knives until coarse crumbs form.
Stir together agave nectar, orange juice, and orange zest in a small bowl until combined. Add orange juice mixture to the flour mixture. Stir together just until the dough begins to form.
Transfer to a surface sprinkled with flour blend and knead 5-6 times until the dough holds together (NOTE: I just stirred it a bit more in the bowl and added some extra flour if I needed it to hold the dough). Divide into three pieces.
Pat each dough section into a circle about 1/2 inch thick. Cut each circle into six wedges with a floured knife. Transfer the scones to a baking sheet, spaced two inches apart.
Bake 10 minutes or until lightly browned. (NOTE: The recipe says 10-14 minutes, but I had a couple smaller scones slightly burned on the bottom at 10 minutes and all my tops were browned. Depending on your oven, you may need to bake a bit longer.) Cool on a wire rack.
Makes 18 scones, each with 16g of carbs.
If you don't like the orange option, you can make these with yogurt. Just use 1/2 cup yogurt instead of the orange juice and omit the orange zest. If you want to use milk, make sure it's buttermilk or sour milk, as you need the acid to get the baking powder to rise.
Also, if you're not gluten free, you can probably just use regular flour and omit the xanthan gum, but I'm not sure how that plays out with the carb count. Probably pretty similar.
Who has the scones recipe? I NEED to bake. Plus, I'm lazy re: searching at the moment...
Here you go.

I am jumping in here. 3rd baby - second go round of GD (had it with the first, didn't with the second). My numbers are well under control, NSTs are normal, etc. The baby is really big (6 lbs - at 32 weeks), but I make big babies so this isn't a shock.
My question is - I switched MFM doctors (various reasons I won't bore you with). I met the new one yesterday and loved her. However, she referred me for diabetic education again. I have 5 1/2 weeks left, have had diabetic ed 4 times now and my numbers are good. Would you suck it up and do it again? Or decline?
@trizzie Me? I'd decline. This is my third GD pregnancy with the same MFM office. At my first nutritionist appointment, the nutritionist didn't even give me the paperwork because I came in already knowing what I needed to do.
Plus, yeah, you're at intermediate/expert level by this point. As my nutritionist said, "I don't have to explain to you that cheese isn't a carb."
I need dinner ideas. I am starving this week and am sick of chicken. I try not to eat too much red meat and I only eat fish a couple times a week. Any ideas other than chicken. :-)
@trizzle Decline. I went to see a nutritionist my second go around and it was a total waste of time and money. I canceled my follow up appointments (they want to see me monthly starting at 12 weeks) and they haven't bothered me since. They can't make you go and I did ok it with my OB.
Thanks you guys. I am going to decline. At this point, I honestly don't have time! I have weekly appts with the mFm and my ob from here to delivery. So ready for baby girl to be here.
I ate like complete crapthese last two days and all of my levels have been under 100 like they should. I went back tonight and wrote everything in my ligs and was surprised. Any one else have good number days while eat like crap?
@ajrichards8889 Sometimes. Also, because I take my meds with dinner, I get more leeway afterwards to eat some crap and not have it affect my fasting number. My breakfast numbers need to be pretty tightly controlled, though.
I had a big sugar crash last night to where I thought I might pass out. I had my meds with dinner around 8 pm, tested at the 2 hour mark and I was at 110. Perfect. I had to stay up late working, and around 1:30 my sugar crashed and I thought I was going to pass out. I came downstairs and scarfed a bunch of Halloween candy and drank a big glass of milk, and I felt better finally. I have no idea what my fasting number will be like, since I haven't tested yet.
@ajrichards8889- Yes! Recently my numbers have been really low and I am not on meds. I talked the OB about it and she said it is okay if I try different foods and see what happens. Well, last night I had pasta and an ice cream sandwich and my numbers were fine. I tested multipled times. HUH?! They diagnosed me after I big time failed the one hour test, so I am wondering if I even have GD or maybe there is a just a hormone fluctuation that is causing it. ?? Weird.
For today i am back to normal. Esoecially since t is halloween and im sure ill indulge on somthing i shouldnt at work. Scrmbled eggs strawberries and raisin engish muffin with peanut butter. Yummy
My numbers have been a bit wacky the last 24 hours too. They ran a little higher than usual yesterday, but still within range, and then I woke up today with a fasting of 115!! Holy Crap! My after dinner last night was OK, and I indulged a bit with my snack (low-sugar ice cream, measured out to the 1/2 cup serving) topped with some cocoa powder and a handful of peanuts. I've had this a few times before with no issue! SO frustrating! Especially after I got lectured from the MD about staying away from cupcakes. I'm sure they are going to get on my case about this as well.
I hope it was just a weird hormone surge last night, and my fastings stay OK for the rest of the weekend
@paigep8 - how about turkey tacos? or ground turkey anything really - I use it in place of ground beef all the time.

@paigep8 you can do turkey and pork. I also like to do a tomato sauce with hamburger meat and put it over grilled eggplant.
