So, I know most of us know each other quite well but it slips my mind what some of you do for a living.
1) Do you work outside of the home or are you a stay-at-home mommy?
2) If you stay home, do you wish you worked and if you worked, do you wish you could stay home?
3) What is your line of business...what do you do? Do you enjoy it or painfully dread it or somewhere in between?

1. I work full time but currently am contracted to work two days a week from home. That contract is going to expire the end of December and I'll be back to commuting 1hr+ each way, five days a week. (
2. I am glad to be working full time. I don't think that I would be able to be SAHM. Major props to all of those who are. =D>
3. I am a fundraiser for an art museum. I do love my job, but recent developments (mainly being screwed out of a promotion) and the commute have me looking elsewhere. As a fundraiser, I am not stuck just to the arts, but could work for a hospital, social service agency, college, etc. Eventually, I would like to consult full time but the thought of going out on my own scares the crap out of me. :-S
I'm a structural (civil) engineer for the power industry. Up until June I was with a consulting firm for the Nuclear industry, and now I work directly for a utility in the substation group (the fenced off areas with all the shiny electrical equipment, not the substations connected to subways - there has been some confusion with friends). I work full time in an office, but I'm considering going back to my previous job so I can have flexibility to work from home more. I also miss the challenge.
Some days I wish I could stay at home full time, but in reality I don't think it would be as awesome as I envision it to be. Toddlers are exhausting! lol
2. I am indifferent to being a SAHM. Some days I would want to work and some days not. There is no benifit to me working since I would be working to pay for daycare.
3. I have a BS in Psych, most of a computer systems engineering degree, and I went back and got a cert in accounting. I was working as an accountant. I may go back after the kids are in school. Or I may have my own business making quilts and purses.
2. Dream job would be something along the lines of forensic science and crime scene investigation. Reality...not sure what I would look for if/when I start work again.
3. I worked in a group daycare center with the under 2 crowd for 6 years. I loved it more before I had kids. Then once she hit the age in was working with I just got burned out. Being around 8 almost 2 year olds all day then taking one home at the end of the day...my patience was shot by then. I realized it was affecting how I treated Nikita so I was done.
2. I love it. I do some volunteer work outside of the home and I really enjoy that. My mom does some event catering occasionally and sometimes I help her for a little extra money.
3. I have a BS in Psych and a MEd in Educational Psych. After our children are in school, I would like to use my degrees somehow.
1) I work full time. I am a remote employee for my company so I work from my home.
2) Given I work from home, I don't mind working. However when LO #2 comes in June, I'm not sure if I'll go back full time. Full time child care for two will basically mean my salary is a wash.
3) I'm a marketing writer for a tech company. I write things like blogs, articles, brochure copy, etc. for my company. I enjoy it most days!
I work full time in public health (specifically work on international HIV/AIDS as well as other health areas). I focus on monitoring and evaluation, health system strengtheing, and gender equality/women's empowerment.
I find my work very interesting and fulfilling but at this point, I do wish I could work less than full time.

1. I work outside the home 2. I like working but sometimes I do wish I could stay home with my girls 3. I am a dental assistant. I have a degree in food service, and after years of working crazy shifts, I wanted a normal job. I love it but the office I work for can be stressful.
@Byjove03 That's really cool! I miss the nuclear industry. It was so fitting for my OCD tendencies. Around here people kind of look at me like I'm crazy...
I can also understand the whole bossing people around who are your parent's age. It is difficult some days, but I've found they respect people who stand up for themselves more and it really has little to do with age. (For most, not all, there are a few that get hung up on the age thing.)
What kind of research do you do? Or is it a secret...
1) I work from home 4 days a week while also taking care of DS and DD myself. I did hire a nanny last year when I went back from maternity leave, but it just was not working. DS was used to always being with me and wanted me over the nanny. If I tried to shut the door, he cried. DD was nursing all the time so I was still doing everything and just let the nanny go.
2) I always wanted to be a SAHM. I love my one day a week off and I love when I take a vacation day and plan a fun activity with the kids. I am afraid money will be too tight if I quit my job. I wish so badly I did things different when we bought our house so I could stay home. I get really frazzled some days juggling work and the kids. It will be great to have this work from home job when DS and DD are both in school, but then I also worry about how I am going to juggle sports and after school activities. My hours are 8-5, but during our busy season, I sometimes work as late as 8pm.
3) I work in the sales division for a large transportation company. I handle one of our largest accounts. I have been working for my boss for 12 years. He made the arrangements for me to work from home when I got pregnant with DS because he did not want to lose me. I have a bacherlor's in English.
@chrissiemeas My DH also works for the Nuke Industry. He's a Mech Eng and worked on a sub prototype as contractor for the navy for a few years. The shift work was crazy but the money was great! He now works at an engineering firm and travels to Nuke plants quite a bit.

2) Of course there are days I wish I could stay home but I love that my DS loves daycare. He also thrives on schedule which they are really good about there. I'm not sure I'd be able to keep such a strict schedule at home. I think SAHM (or dads!) have the toughest job ever! I don't think I'm cut out for it.
3) I'm a process improvement leader at an engineering company. If you've ever heard of Six Sigma, that's what I do. I like it.

2) I would love to stay at home, but in reality, I'm not sure I am cut out for it.
3) I am a sales analyst/admin for a sales team (large logistics company ). I love what I do and I work with amazing people, I enjoy coming to work every day.
2. I always wanted to be a SAHM and love being with my kids. I wish our schedule allowed me just a couple hours to work a week - even if it weren't in my professional area and was more WAH doing photo books for people or babysitting or editing or - whatever. I love SAH though and don't miss the toxic parts of my old job.
3. M.S. - SLP. Before leaving the workforce, I was working in pediatrics.
2.) I would like to switch roles but we aren't there yet. DH works from home part time and that would be great. Except the working part.
3.) I work for an independent broker dealer. Which is finance. We are the middle men between financial advisors/agents and the regulatory agencies like the SEC. I work in the licensing dept. I help advisors get licensed on the federal level and the state level. I make sure that they are licensed properly to give people advice about their finances. I also help them hire their staff since they all have to be documented on the federal level in case Bernie Madoff crap goes down. That's where all those background checks I talk about come into play.

@Altima80 Oh man, could I use someone like you... THE BEATINGS WILL COMMENCE UNTIL EFFICIENCY AND QUALITY IMPROVE!
1. I work one to two days per week. The rest of the time I'm home with DD.
2. I really like this set up. I get to be home with my little girl usually about 4 days each week but I also get a break and I get to go into work also. I used to hate working, but I really don't mind how it breaks up my routine a little bit now. It gives me a change of scenery. DH will work from home on the days that I go into work, so we don't have to put DD in daycare.
3. I'm a Certified Medical Assistant for an endocrinology/diabetes doctor's office. I generally enjoy it. There are ups and downs but I know it's pretty much like that with every job. My long term goal always was to become a nurse. But life kept getting in the way. Now I don't know if I want to even go that route anymore. I know I definitely want to further my education once the kids are a little older though.
@ChrissieMeas I am in the midwest, Kansas to be exact.

1) I work in the office 3 days a week and work from home 2 days a week. Being in the office is definitely easier, though I hate it. Working from home with a toddler is a struggle, but I make it work.
2) I would love to stay at home. LOVE IT. I would probably do contract work at night/weekends just to make a little extra, but I am the breadwinner and I don't see my dream becoming a reality anytime soon
3) I am a paralegal, mostly litigation, but some corporate. I used to love it. Things at the firm have changed a lot in the past year and I absolutely loathe it now. I like what I do, just not where I am right now.
3.My degree is in English and Philosophy. Before kids I worked at a Library since high school. I worked my way up from page to Library Assistant. Theoretically, I would love to go back to school and get my masters so I could be a Librarian, but that wouldn't be very practical because Librarian jobs are very scarce. Also I will be homeschooling, so it would be very far off if I ever did go back.
Props to all the WAHMs. I don't know how you do it. Just being a mom is a full time job, I can't imagine working at home while watching the kids too.
2) I would love to work less and be home with G more.
3) I'm a dog groomer and for the most part, I love it. It's rough work physically and now that I'm having so much ttouble with my back I'm coming to the conclusion that I may need to find a different job sooner than I thought.
1. I work outside of the home part time (29 hours a week), and at home, 2 hours in the evenings.
2. I like working part time, I think it's a good balance for me. If I were to work 2 hours more per day I'd qualify for vacation time and benefits. I'd really like to get paid vacation time, so I have mixed feelings. My boss keeps trying to get my position pushed to full time but they haven't approved it.
3. I work as the admin assistant for the Arts Department at a large public school district. In the evenings I teach private voice lessons out of my home. I studied music (voice) and business in college. These jobs are both a good fit for me. While an arts department has its share of dramatic people, in general both of the jobs are relatively low stress while still being stimulating and in a field I enjoy. That's very important to me.
1) Do you work outside of the home or are you a stay-at-home mommy? I work outside of the home, but I'll be going down to an 80% schedule starting next week. That's in preparation for baby #2 getting here.
2) If you stay home, do you wish you worked and if you worked, do you wish you could stay home? I always think in my ideal world I'd stay home with the kids, but then we'll have a particularly bad weekend and I can think is thank god for work. So it depends on the day
3) What is your line of business...what do you do? Do you enjoy it or painfully dread it or somewhere in between? I'm a CPA in public accounting, so I do clients' taxes for the most part. I really enjoy what I do, but there are some slower times of the year (like now) that I kind of dread. There's a big focus on hours (both total and billable) in this profession, which can kind of stress me out if I know I'm not on track.
2) When I was growing up I definitely wanted to be a SAHM. Once I graduated from college and started working my opinion totally changed. I love what I do.
3) I work for a child welfare agency that work with children and families that have come to have involvement with Child Protective Services or foster care. Currently, I am supervising the adoption department. My job can be extremely emotional and draining due to working with so many people and having to make decisions that will CHANGE people's lives. My job is pretty flexible but can change in a moment's notice and have me working into the dark of the night. but I LOVE it and would not change a thing!
1. I work part time but consider myself a sahm. I work approximately 12 hours per week. Much of it can be done during naps, at night, and on weekends.
2. I like staying home and still working some. I do miss the adult interaction I got from working outside the home. I liked my coworkers, but I did not like dealing with certain cranky clients. I enjoy staying at home, but it definitely has it's difficult moments (ds hates napping!)
3. I am a Christian Education Coordinator. I organize and run our church's Sunday School program. My degree is in education. I like that this job utilizes my degree and organizational skills. Prior to having ds, I worked at an animal hospital. I did it part time so that I could still work at the church.
1) I work from home full time. I do go into the office once a month.
2) I would love to be a SAHM but we can't afford to be on one income unfortunately.
3) I have a management position at a major airline. I take mileage plan calls, web help calls and complaint calls. I really do like it. The complaint calls aren't bad and there aren't many. The benefits are great so I really can't imagine leaving even if I could. Love this company.
I am an IT consultant specializing in implementing cloud-based solutions for federal clients. I just negotiated working 2 days from home, woohoo!
I like it well-enough, it's a bit stressful and time consuming but the pay is great. Overall I really don't do too bad time wise for someone in the consulting industry,
1) I work almost FT (4 days/week, but that often ends up being 40 hours...), but I actually work from home (though DD has childcare); I sometimes commute from NY-DC for my job.
2) Sometimes I wish I could stay home - I think ideally, I'd like to work 3 days/week, and stay home more. If we have a second child, I think I am going to reevaluate my work plans, and am considering becoming a consultant so that I can take on assignments periodically, but not work as regularly.
3) I work for a government contractor, as a technical writer. I generally write proposals in response to requests from USAID (though sometimes for other agencies, like the Department of Defense, or for other donors, like the World Bank of the British Department for International Development). Right now, I'm writing about climate-sensitive economic growth in the Philippines. Last week, I was writing about agricultural production in Mozambique. This summer I wrote about topics as varied as pandemic preparedness, innovation competitions, and wildlife trafficking. It is sometimes frustrating, but it's rarely boring!

I wonder if we have ever run into each other in real life!
1. I'm a SAHM. 2. Right now, I love staying home, but wouldn't mind something part time. I started looking for something, but my husband has picked up more hours. 3. I have a B.S. In childhood education & an M.S. In special education. I taught for 5 years up until my first was born.

You need to let us know next time you're in DC!
I'm actually coming on Thursday, but I'm taking a 7am Amtrak down, and a 7pm one back...if anyone wants to have coffee at Union Station at 6pm, I'll be there! (But seriously, the next time I come down for more than 9 hours, I will definitely let you guys know!)
1) Do you work outside of the home or are you a stay-at-home mommy? I work inside the home as a SAHM. I just get paid in hugs, giggles & kisses. Not $...
2) If you stay home, do you wish you worked and if you worked, do you wish you could stay home? I am happy staying home.
3) What is your line of business...what do you do? Do you enjoy it or painfully dread it or somewhere in between? N/A

2) If you stay home, do you wish you worked and if you worked, do you wish you could stay home? I don't think I'm cut out to be a SAHM.
3) What is your line of business...what do you do? Do you enjoy it or painfully dread it or somewhere in between? I have my bachelors in electrical engineering and masters in engineering and technology management. Currently I'm working as a systems engineer for the federal government overseeing Boeing Defense contracts. It has its days.
1. I have two outside of the home, PT jobs that I LOVE!!
2. I feel like it's a good balance between working and SAHM. I don't do either full time so it's great for us!
3. I teach preschool at a childcare center 4 half days a week, am off by 1:00 and never work Fridays! :-) I also run a local youth dance program and teaching 2 evenings a week, which ends up being 10 classes for about 175 dancers. It's really fun and let's me enjoy my passion for dancing and music, along with teaching. I love working with girls of all ages and being a good role model for them. They really get to know me over the years and my older ones (middle school/high school) open up to me a lot and confide in me which is really nice. I love being a "person" for them!
1) Do you work outside of the home or are you a stay-at-home mommy? Full-time working mom
2) If you stay home, do you wish you worked and if you worked, do you wish you could stay home? Nope, I am extremely happy to be working full time. I have seen just from small snippets of time like long weekends and maternity leave that I would be a miserable SAHM. I love getting dressed up nice and going to the office to interact with adults (though some of these attorneys are borderline, lol), and it makes me appreciate my time at home with the kids more.
3) What is your line of business...what do you do? Do you enjoy it or painfully dread it or somewhere in between? I am an in house corporate paralegal for a major hotel company, working at the corporate headquarters, and I love it. It's one of the best companies to work for if you are a working parent, the pay and benefits are good, and I love everyone I work with.
2) i wish i could work 4 days a week but if i want to advance in my career i need to be ft.
3) i am a senior bank teller (i supervise the other tellers and am in charge of a bunch of other things). I am almost finished my certification to sell mutual funds and then I'll be looking for a new position. i am somewhere in between enjoy and painfully dread most days.
1) Do you work outside of the home or are you a stay-at-home mommy? Outside
2) If you stay home, do you wish you worked and if you worked, do you wish you could stay home? Yes I truly wish I could stay at home. I told DH he should work his ass off and get promoted. Lol. And if you know the whole thing with him and MIL, me saying that would make sense. But he said he is trying. If he became a supervisor he would make more than we make together now.
3) What is your line of business...what do you do? Do you enjoy it or painfully dread it or somewhere in between? I have 2 jobs. Vet assistant and Grocery worker. I enjoy the vet. The grocery is a dreadful place. It's soul sucking and all of the employees hate it. Management is terrible. I'm only there for the extra money. I've thought of quitting but money always wins out haha.

2. I LOVE staying home with him. If I worked it would be to pay for daycare which makes no sense. Daycare is more than our rent.
3. I'm about 80% done with my degree in teaching but I started reading the books to become a doula & I really think it's my dream job.

2. Right now, I love staying home, but wouldn't mind something part time. I started looking for something, but my husband has picked up more hours.
3. I have a B.S. In childhood education & an M.S. In special education. I taught for 5 years up until my first was born.
