Low Impact Exercise

I searched the board for the exercise check-in, but didn't see one today.  I am wanting to continue to exercise throughout my pregnancy this time around. However, I am not able to run at the moment - and probably won't be cleared to run for 6 weeks.  (I had foot surgery in April to fuse some bones together and one bone isn't completely fused, so I am back in my boot for 6 weeks.)

I can do low impact activities that don't put a lot of pressure on my foot.  I'm thinking I might try continuing pilates and yoga with the boot, but I'm not sure how well that will go.  I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas for any other low impact workouts I can do until I'm cleared for higher impact activity again. Thanks!

Re: Low Impact Exercise

  • I would like to know too! I normally do spin and cross fit style classes and am feeling lost not going 100 percent working out !

  • Swimming is one of the best low impact exercises you can do! It's challenging and strengthens your muscles without the impact. I hear that many women swim up until labor and it's completely safe!
  • You could do upper body excercises, lat pull down, weights (push press, rows), possibly kettleball swings if that doesn't put pressure on your foot.  I don't know about the rowing machine, your boot might not fit in it?  Hope it feels fast!

  • I started swimming and I love it. It's a full body workout and my knees don't hate me afterwards! As I gain weight it will be something I can keep up since I have bad knees.
