Pregnancy test confusion.

So I stopped breastfeeding my little girl this August, and still to this day have not had a period since I got pregnant with her. The first part of this month I started feeling nauses so after a week of feeling like that I decided to take a pregnancy test. It was positive but a little on the fainter side, so I decided to wait a day and take another one. That one was dark and I was definitely pregnant. So since I haven't had a period I called my dr and set up an apt to go in and find out how far along I was and get my EDD. Well, my apt is set up for this coming Wednesday. (They were 3 weeks out with apts) So this past Friday I decided to take another test just because I thought it was crazy I could be pregnant since we weren't necissarily trying, and I haven't had a period. So I took a third test, and the test said not pregnant. I still have all my pregnancy symptoms (smell, nausea, headaches, constantly peeing, bloating..ect) and have not had any bad cramping or bleeding. We thought maybe I had a miscarriage or the test was faulty so My husband went and bought two more tests. I took both, one was positive and one was negative.. I am just so confused! Has anyone else had anything like this? I dunno if I am not pregnant and I'm just crazy, or can you have a miscarriage without bleeding or symptoms, or did I get two faulty tests? I am not taking anymore test, and will see what happens at the drs, but I am curious to see if anyone has had this happen or know why it could happen? Thanks in advance!!

I've read on here about something called the Hook effect. Try and dilute your pee and see if you get a positive

First, it would be rare to have 2 faulty tests, but it would be more rare to have a false positive.  You can have a miscarriage with no bleeding/cramping, it's called a missed miscarriage.  Do you know how far along you could possibly be?  Good luck at your appointment on Wednesday.

If I were you I would call your doctor's office and request a pregnancy confirmation test in the meantime. This way you already have the results at your doctor's appointment and can guide the appointment based on the results. Plus you would have the results within the same day

Ditto @MrsNS, if you could have a BETA drawn tomorrow, you could have the 2nd drawn on Wednesday and you'd at least know what your HCG is doing.  If it's less than 1200, it should double every 48-72 hours, if it's between 1200-6000 it should double every 72-96 hours, and over 6000 should take longer than 96 hours.

Different brands and types of tests will test for different hcg levels. You can search online and there are graphs.

It is possible to be positive on one brand and not the other depending on how far along you are and how diluted your urine is.

I'm also in the no period since before LO boat.... now I feel like buying another test....

Thanks everyone. I was guessing I was around 7 weeks but I really could be anywhere from 6-11 weeks I guess. I will probably call the dr tomorrow and ask for a blood test. I'll definitely let you know how Wednesday goes. I have used the same brand for all the tests I took. And thanks for the info about the hook effect. I had never heard of that! I looked it up and sounds pretty much like what's going on, so maybe I'll go get some more tests and try diluting, and see what happens. Wish me luck!

The hook effect is definitely real...I took a pregnancy test at about 5w1d and the line was super light, but a few days previous it was much darker. I actually had my hcg levels tested on Friday and they were really high for 5w3d. There might be a chance you're farther along than you thought and your hcg levels are just too high for it to register.

Well lady's.. I am very much pregnant! My appointment went very well and am excited to say that I have a healthy baby in there! I am 9 weeks 4days, so I am farther along then I thought! The heart was pumping away at 176. I guess the Hook effect is very real. Thank you all for your support!! I am sad to leave, but my due date is the end of May so I guess I will be moving to the May month now. Good luck to all you lady's and I hope you all have a healthy pregnancy and delivery!!
