Baby food jar crafts?

I'm leading a kids craft for an Advent event at our church. I have to pay for all the supplies, so I thought it would be brilliant to reuse the glass baby food jars I've been collecting. I can search Pinterest, but I'm wondering if any of you have anything that is good, easy, cute, and quick?

Re: Baby food jar crafts?

  • I've used them to store homemade play dough before. :)

Paint the lids the color of the play dough that will be stored inside. And I also took sharpies and wrote the color on the front of the glass jar. (So if your homemade play dough was orange, your lid would be and your sharpie would be too.)

My DS1 loved making his homemade play dough. It's super cheap and easy!

    Link fail.

Just type in "no cook play dough recipe" on pinterest.

ETA there are tons of holiday scented ones too. Like pumpkin spice, apple cinnamon, etc.
  • You can glue small trees, snowmen, etc to the lid, fill the hap part of the way with water and some glitter. Put a thin line of glue around the threads of the jar at the top and put the lid on. Once it's dry, turn it over and voilà! Snow globe :)

I was going to suggest this one next. :)

I've used them to make little "lanterns" before. I modpodged tissue paper on the outside and just stuck a cheap battery powered tea candle in it. My preschool class at vbs had fun with it.

@Mevaroo‌ I'm no stranger to modpodge... But how long did it take to dry? Did you use little paper squares or big pieces of paper?

This is adorable. I'm imagine the kids singing "this little light of mine" while showing off their lanterns to their parents.
    Aaaaaaaaaaand I'm sold.
