Hello! This is my first time posting on Homeschooling. I am pretty active over on TTGP. I currently have 2 children ages 8 and 10 (trying for #3) and I'm looking for some advice/direction.
MH and I want to (hopefully) start homeschooling starting next school year due to many frustrations we have been encountering. I was hoping to get some guidance on where to begin and what the protocol is here in Upstate NY. Are the guidelines different for each state?
It feels a bit overwhelming so any advice I can get would be outstanding!
TIA

Every state is different. I'm not in NY, but I think the best thing for you to do is contact one of your local homeschooling communities. There are associations and co-ops everywhere. Find one with parents from your local school district and have them walk you through the notification and assessment processes for your state. I had a parent walk me through it the first time and it was super helpful! I was overwhelmed when reading the legal jargon online, but this woman showed me how easy it really is.
Another thing I recommend is getting an HSLDA membership. When I got mine I was able to access all of the required forms for my state. Representatives helped me when the state contacted me requesting more information and told me what I did and didn't have to legally submit. I was happy I had the membership, because the majority of what the state was requesting was not legally required.
