I went to college there and I absolutely love the city! It's just amazing. The restaurants rival any I've been to around the world. Are you a seafood eater? I hope!!!
What kind of restaurants (cuisines & casual/formal preferences) do you like or are you looking to go to? Also, what are the ages of the people on your trip that will be partaking in the activities/sightseeing? I'd be happy to make some recommendations! Charleston is the best.
There is a restaurant called 32 Queen. It is AMAZING. Very charming and a great atmosphere too. It is a little pricey but the food is unbelievably awesome.
I live right outside of Charleston! Soooo many amazing restaurants here. If we could afford to eat out every night, we definitely wouldn't get bored. I'll post some of our favorite restaurants. The first three won't be downtown, but still in the area, and WORTH it!
Sesame Burgers and Beer (amazing burgers, obviously) Boxcar Betty's (best chicken sandwich of my life, no joke!) Perfectly Frank's (hotdog joint, seriously good. Was on Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives) The Tattooed Moose (try the duck sandwich) Basil (Thai food) Grill 225 (expensive, but worth it) Fast and French (aka Gaulart & Maliclet- French food) Hyman's Seafood (touristy, but good) Kaminsky's (for dessert) Hominy Grill (Southern) Caviar and Bananas (a gourmet cafe & market) Social Wine Bar (really good pizza and blue cheese chips) The Gin Joint (great small plates, cheese, etc) Tabbuli ( Mediterranean)
Some good restaurants near the beaches are: Poe's Tavern (Edgar Allen Poe decor, great burgers, my favorite salad of all time- grilled chicken salad) Salt (kind of pricey, but good) Taco Boy or Taco Mamacita (different restaurants on different beaches, but both delicious)
And there is a little area of North Charleston called Park Circle that has a bunch of a awesome little restaurants. There is a Sesame there (see above) Madra Rua (Irish pub fare) EVO (gourmet pizzas etc) Park Pizza Co (s bunch of awesomely interesting pizzas)
Sorry for the novel. There are SO many amazing restaurants in the area. I'm honestly just brushing the surface for you!
Been to Hyman's and Fleet Landing (been to the latter twice). I like the location of Fleet Landing - eat outside if you can. Hyman's was... pretty forgettable (other than the boiled peanuts, which I don't care for in general.)
