my lo has only been drinking a maximumm of 16 oz of formula in a day. I give her the bottle and she doesnt want it. Did anyone experience this? What should i do?
My Lo has been difficult to feed lately. I think it is either a tooth coming in soon or distraction or a combo of both. She'll pull the bottle out of her mouth, pinch the nipple, squirt herself in the face, shove it back in her mouth only to pull it out again, then she'll tip it upside down and watch the formula slosh around inside. If one of the cats or daddy walks into the room, forget it, she's too distracted to eat.
We had one day where I could barely get anything in her and signs on constipation showed up quickly so I gave her some prune juice in her bottles and did what I could do get her to eat. Usually taking 5 minutes breaks and giving her the bottle again will eventually get it all down. If she absolutely won't eat, then I try giving smaller amounts, but closer together, so instead of 6 ounces every 4 hours I'd try 2 ounces every hour. She gets a midnight bottle and dream feeds so that bottle goes very smoothly since she's basically asleep. So like tonight, she only took 4 ounces before bed instead of 6, so I'll add 2 ounces to her midnight bottle.
If none of this works, or it has been more than one day of not getting enough food in, call your pedi ASAP. There could be a bigger reason she isn't eating, and especially if she is dehydrated and constipated she needs hydration.
