Baby Names

Natasha??

Hi everyone
I am new here FTM 20w6d and we are super excited that its a girl. A bit of background - my husband and I have a very interesting family....both our families are of Indian origin but I grew up in Africa and his mom is Fijian. Coming up with names has been quite a challenge. I would like to pay tribute to our roots but also have a fairly easy name to say since the kid is gonna grow up here.
Since I liked Asha as a name, my sis suggested Natasha and using Asha as a NN. We have a one syllable last name starting with K so I like the idea of a longer first name. We would probably go with a more "ethnic" (hate that word!) middle name like Meera in that case.
What do you guys think? Any other suggestions? We need ideas :)

Zara and Zora were on our list but I wasn't sure how people would say it! Zara sounds nice as zah-ra no rhyming with Sarah. Our close friends have already used Maya and Monica as names. Maya is very popular right now anyway. I like Nadia too :).

  • I'd never rhyme Zara with Sarah, but it could be because it's the name of a detectives daughter on law and order SVU.;) I like Natasha but I love Zara!

  • aww...thanks guys! I was not sure how people would react to the name. Both our sisters like it too. Seems like its a front runner for now. Zara is still in there too :)
  • Love Nadia and Natasha!
  • I love Natasha!
  • I like Asha. I like Natasha too but I like Zara and Asha better. I don't think either of those names are too out there for westerners.

  • Natasha is nice and underused. Asha works well as a NN for it. (Much better than Nat or something)

  • Love Natasha. It was on our short list and I still would want to use it if we have another daughter some day. My only caution is that if you really love Asha, keep in mind that nn's are sometimes tricky - they don't always stick, and kiddo will have her own opinion soon enough on what she wants to be called.

  • I like Asha, I prefer Asha over Natasha. Zara is pretty too & I would have never rhymed it with Sarah.
  • I love your idea for Natasha nn Asha. I think no one will have trouble pronouncing Zara correctly, because a lot of people are familiar with the clothing store.

  • I like asha but am not totally in love with it. In India, apparently it's an old woman name...but for me that or any nn depends on the baby. Zara is pretty but honestly my hesitation is that it is the store too!
  • Natasha is not bad.
  • I love love love Natasha!! It's on my list. Similar names could be Natalia or Natalie. I like Natalia a lot
