A little ticked at my co-worker

So I had told just 2 people at work that I am around all day that I am pregnant. I'm only 6 weeks but I work with special needs kids and we occasionally have to help eachother lift them but not very often. I have had a couple miscarriages so I'm a little over protective of myself. I had one of our nurses today ask me to help her lift the child she was with and the co-worker that knows I'm pregnant offered to help instead (cause that was our deal). Anyways, she comes back and tells me that she went ahead and let my other co-worker know that I am pregnant stand told her not to ask for my help in the future. I don't know what the look on my face was but imagine it was complete shock. Who does that?? It was not her place to tell ANYONE that I am pregnant. I get that she thinks she was doing me a favor by letting her know I shouldn't be lifting but I could have just as easily done that MYSELF if I thought it was necessary.

Okay bitching over.. I was just sooo angry.

Re: A little ticked at my co-worker

  • You totally deserve to be angry! Not her place to tell. Sorry you had to deal with that.

  • I'm really sorry that happened, but I think that @ilovelucyv is right that co-workers tend to spill. I've told three co-workers, but I wouldn't be upset if anyone else found out (and it's entirely possible that someone could have overheard).

Did you tell your co-worker that it was a secret? I'm sure she just thought she was doing you a favor in case she wasn't around if the other co-worker asked for help lifting again. It doesn't excuse her either way, but I'd maybe be a tiny bit less upset.

  • I agree with PP...most often at work, you tell one, you might as well tell them all. It does suck that you thought you could trust this co-worker to keep it quiet, but perhaps she didn't realize that it needed to be kept a secret? Who knows, but I'm sorry it upset you. Look at it this way...might as well have fun telling everyone at work now?! Maybe? haha!

  • Ugh, what a beeotch.  You definitely have the right to be angry. I know if I tell the people I am closest to at work the same thing will happen...

Yes. It was made very clear that this was a secret.

Ugh, that sucks. I'd be really pissed off, too.

  • I'm sorry she did that.

When I tell anyone anything at work, I am 100% sure the rest of the office will know within minutes.  So if something actually needs to be a secret (like this pregnancy right now), as much as I want to blurt it out to my work friends, I have to keep it to myself until I'm ready for the entire campus to know.
I didn't want to tell anyone at all. But I told exactly 2 specific people so that they could cover for me when I get sick, have to take extra bathroom breaks and help lift 100+ lb children.
  • No, not her place at all! Hence you had an agreement in place that she just help when you were asked! One of my close friends blabbed to her daughter who then told mine! I was not ready for my older kids to know! I know how infuriating it can be! It is your news to tell!
  • You have every right to be furious. On the one hand, it's kind of sweet that your coworker wanted to watch out for you but on the other hand it's like "hey bonehead - the whole reason we had this deal was so you could discreetly cover for me with the lifting so I wouldn't HAVE to tell other people yet". Sorry she let the cat out of the bag on you!
