Re: ~*~ Grad Check In ~*~ 10/23
All is pretty good here! I did two full days of yard work this weekend since it is finally cool enough for me to be outside, and that was probably a little too much - my physical therapist full on laughed at me when I explained why my hip and back where such a mess! But my yard looks fabulous and we won't have to do really anything else until spring.
We did get a bit of concerning information this week, but I am dealing better with it now than I was when I first found out. While interviewing pediatricians, I mentioned my family history of autoimmune issues, specifically that my brother was born without a functioning immune system. Thankfully this pediatrician is a rock star, and unlike any others I had spoken with, she was familiar with the different kinds of primary immunological issues while being very calm about it all.
However, it made me research my brother's condition more and it seems it's likely genetic, and if so, I have a 50% chance of being a carrier and if I have it, my son will have a 50% chance of having the same issue. And it's no joke - at best, gamma globulin transfusions bimonthly for years, vaccines won't have an effect, hospitalization for any fever, and at worst chemotherapy and a bone marrow or stem cell transplant before the age of 3 months. Like I said, really scary stuff! However, I am taking this one step at a time - we have to wait until he's born to test him, but at least we know to test him and we know the doctor we will get a referral to if he has it, and we'll just go from there. DH keeps using the words "chronic condition," which seem a lot less scary and more manageable if we have to deal with it.
Otherwise, all is well! 28w2d now and officially third trimester. Still feeling good! The next few weeks should be big ones - we are going up to visit my in laws over Halloween and have our shower with DH's family, which will likely result in our remaining essentials being purchased. Then my parents are coming into town the following weekend, and my Mom custom made the curtains and customized the bed skirt with coordinating fabric and made a pillow for the glider. So we'll have our nursery all put together when they leave!
It's all happening SO soon, it blows my mind! We will have to get our bags packed pretty soon for the hospital, just in case. I hope to have that done by Thanksgiving.
And a prettier bump pic from a night out with DH's coworkers:
QOTW: I don't have any pictures, but my Mom made me a pink Care Bear outfit as a kid. I freaking loved that thing!
