May 2015 Moms

Thought there was just one...

Hi girls! Newish to this board. Been browsing a lot but haven't commented on anything yet! Mostly still can't believe that I am pregnant!!! Had some spotting issues over the weekend. Nothing serious- just very brief and light in color. They did a sonogram on me and everything was just fine.... with BOTH of the babies... What!?! There are two? Now I am into a whole new world of shock and worry and sometimes excitement. Just mostly disbelief.

My husband is a first year med student and we just moved to a new city away from family. I'm completely overwhemled with the possibility of taking care of two babies!!! Has anyone else been in my shoes?! Would be nice to hear from some other multiples moms. PS this is my first pregnancy. Due date is in the beginning of June - but seeing as there are two in there I'm sure I'll be a May mommy - at the very latest

  • Honestly. I don't even know if they are identical or did I even ask if they were sharing a sac!!! I was in shock!?! I'm no sonogram reader but I was wondering if that was what was going on! Have an appointment in two week. Will need to ask more questions then!!!

  • Congratulations! I can totally relate to the shock and worry that you are feeling. I found out at 6 weeks 4 days that I am expecting twins and at first all I could think about was "how are we going to be able to handle 2 newborns?" now that the shock wore off, all I think about is how badly I want both of them to be healthy and I make it to at least 37 weeks! Good luck and welcome to the twin club!
  • I was born my dad's freshman year of med school!! Congrats!!
  • Wow, I'm sure that was quite the surprise! Congrats!

I'm no expert on twins but I did research twins the other day because @irishtheatrechic‌ has a rare set of identical twins. The few ppl I know that did IVF and has twins you can see 2 sacs and your us looks like there is only 1.
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • Congrats!!! We are happy to have you! Twins sound scary, but everyone I know who has twins wants another set. We are doubly excited for you!!

Good to know.  Will be anxious to get more answers.  Right now just praying that we all stay healthy.  I know Mono/Mono twins are higher risk.  I'm sure I will have many appointments to figure all this out!!  I certainly will keep you all posted!

Pretty sure they are identical. Congrats from another twin mom-to-be!

    @sugar4bri

Do you know if your twins are identical or fraternal?!

  • Congrats from a fellow twin mom. My girls are almost two years old. The multiples board is a great support and you can find a lot of info there.

The only way to know your twins are identical in the womb is when they are MoMo (monochorionic and monoamniotic) and share the same sac and share a placenta. Otherwise you will have to confirm with a blood test when they are born.

  • Congrats from another Twin Momma to be! We did IVF, so we knew there was a very solid chance of both embryos sticking and it was still shocking to think that there are two.  Things have gotten a little better, but I still have no idea how it will all work out.  I just know that it will. This is our first as well, and I just tell myself that I won't know any different.  It's not going to be "harder" for me, because I don't know what it's like to just have a singleton!

  • Congrats from one twin mom to another! It looks like there may be a membrane between the two, but I'm no expert. Join us on the Twin Tuesday check in, and don't hesitate to ask any questions. I'm 12w3d and still learning as much as possible.

Yes, @mthalken‌. There is a thread started every Tuesday to discuss our twins progress, appointments, and more!

  • Congrats! Twins are so fun. Double the baby cuteness.

My husband is a twin, I have 2 sets of twin nephews.

All of those parents agree... if you can afford it - a night nurse is PRICELESS. One of my cousins had a night nurse 4-5x a week (both parents are doctors) and the other cousin had a night nurse 2-3x a week.

Those nights they would hand the baby monitors over to the night nurse and head to bed right after dinner. The nurse would bathe them, feed them and change them all night long. Then parents would wake up refreshed and feed babies before heading to work & dropping them at babysitter/nanny.

I hear there are some night nurses who have experience with multiples and some don't.

Check out your local hospital to see if there is a multiples "parenting" class.

Also hit up any local "multiples" sales.
