TTC after 35

When can I test?

So I'm on Day 33 of my cycle and (according to the OPK) 10 days post ovulation. FF says not to test until day 5 of my next cycle which isn't until next Friday. That's over a week away!!! This is my first full cycle since removing the Mirena but prior to placement my cycles were generally 28-32 days. Any opinions? I'm thinking of taking a test on Friday (2days from now) but is that silly and just too soon? PS I bought a 2-pack of tests but already used them last Friday and Sunday so I feel like it would be more financially sound to wait until I miss a period. I just don't know when that should be. Ugh!

Re: When can I test?

  • If you aren't charting your bbt you don't know when you ovulated therefore no-one can assist you with testing accuracy.  I will say that when I had my mirena out my first cycle was 19 days long, then it leveled out.  If I were you I'd hold out on testing unless you don't mind spending $ on hpts.
If you don't conceive this cycle I'd suggest looking into fertility friend and become familiar with charting your temp, utilizing secondary fertility signs, opks, and grabbing the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility.

  • someone here (I can't for the life of me remember who) told me that if this is your first time using FF to keep track of ovulation, they it sets your testing date at day 18dpo since that's when it's 99% accurate. Once you have more cycles inputted, it supposedly changes to the testing date, but I have not had experience with that yet since this is only my second cycle keeping track of all the things.

that being said, 10 days is "usually" too early to tell if you've got a positive, but not impossible. It won't be definitive if it's negative either. I'd imagine you could (assuming you're okay with seeing a negative result and knowing it's not definitive) start testing if you wanted. But yes, if you're worried about the financial cost of buying the tests, and don't have a stockpile from say Amazon, then you might wanna wait a bit...
