2nd Time Mastitis

So, in my attempt to wean myself from the pump, I got mastitis again.

I called my dr. and was prescribed the antibiotics yesterday, but they don't seem to be helping as much as they should. I mean, they are helping - I don't feel as achy/sore/feverish/flu-like as I did yesterday, but the wedge shape on my breast is even more tender and red today than is was yesterday.

How long would you wait for it to get better before calling the dr.? Is this normal? I just don't want it developing into an abcess or anything. The last time I had it, the medication seemed to help almost immediately, and my breast never got any worse.

Thanks in advance!

you should start to feel better within 24-48 hours of starting the antibiotics. when i had mastitis, i started to feel a little better after 24 hours, and considerably better after 48 hours.

if you're not feeling any *worse*, i'd maybe give it until tomorrow before you call the doctor (if you have any doubts, just call today). take advil for the pain/swelling, and try soaking in a hot bath. and nurse as often as possible.
