Help me travel with two kids alone!

Ok so here's the situation. I am taking my boys will be 18 months and 3.5 to Florida and I am planning early, the only thing that really concerns me is the plane ride. How do I get both car seats on the plane ( I will need them at my destination) by myself? How do I get through the airport with them both. I have a city select and a city mini gt to choose from as far as strollers go but I still will need to figure out how to get through security with both kids two car seats and a stroller not to mention our carry on( will check most of our stuff) filled with toys/snacks.. Anyone ever done this before, I could check the 3.5 year olds car seat if I HAVE too but I feel like he would nap the whole time ( 3 hour flight) if we had his seat on the plane..any suggestions? Am I over thinking this?

Re: Help me travel with two kids alone!

  • Do you have anyone that could help you get to the gate?

You can call the airline ahead of time and ask for a gate pass so that someone can come in and hel you.  They will still need an ID and to go through security.
To my boys:  I will love you for you Not for what you have done or what you will become I will love you for you I will give you the love The love that you never knew

  • We have a strap that attaches a convertible seat to a rolling suitcase and it's wonderful bc then one can ride in it, like another stroller.

The logistics are daunting - we're considering flying w our preschooler and toddler twins in a few months - but I've flown w kids a bunch and it's never as bad as you think it will be.

And even when it is bad - when my oldest was a toddler, he threw a 45 min tantrum while we were waiting w engines off in July on the Tarmac - people are so very nice.

I also very strongly suggest an iPad or mini DVD or whatnot. I'm not huge on electronics, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

  • I've flown with both of my kids by myself. Luckily, I was able to forego one car seat (family bought an inexpensive one). I put the baby in the ergo, carried my suitcase on my back ( it's a large backpack that opens like a suitcase from eBags), strapped the diaper bag to the kids roll aboard and had my 3 year old walk with me. I brought our travel seat which is a Safety First Guide 65 so it was lightweight and easy to carry. Bribe the kids with an iPad and M&Ms.

  • My kids were about a year younger than yours when I flew with both of them and it was a total nightmare.  And that was with me, my H, and my dad, AND my sister.  I was scheduled to go to a wedding by myself with them a few months later and I canceled.  Logistically it was just impossible (how would I go to the bathroom or change a dirty diaper??).  Now, your kids are a little older, and if you HAVE to do it you have to do it.  Using a strap to convert your roller suitcase into a car seat carrier/stroller (like PP mentioned) is a must.
