Apps for moving photos from iMac to Flickr

There seem to be a number of apps or whatever to copy photos in bulk from iMac to Flickr. I have thousands of pictures that I would like to copy over as a partial back-up.

Has anyone done this? Do you recommend whatever app you used?

    Online it says that takes way too long when you have thousands to upload, so people created these apps (or plug-ins? don't really know the terms) that just search Flickr and upload anything not already there.
