Lack of Preparedness

So I have 16 weeks left and Maverick's nursery is still being used as a storage room. It's not painted, the crib is not put together, & my husband keeps telling me that we have time but with the holidays fast approaching, I'm panicking.
Am I the only who doesn't have the nursery finished?

Re: Lack of Preparedness

  • Nooooooo, not even close! I do have all the furniture out of the second bedroom, but definitely not all the storage. I'm with you, mama!

  • You have a crib, so you are ahead of me. I just had a mini freak out last night because I don't have anything and living in the middle of no where it takes up to 3 months to get everything. I finally ordered my crib. My nursery is still a storage room. I am making a list of everything that needs to get done and slowly going to start checking them off. PS. love the name. (I don't even have names picked out so you are def ahead of the game!~)
  • I'm not even close to having his room ready. My dayhome kids are using it as a napping room and won't be out of here until mid December. We're going to paint it before then but that's it. I haven't even bought the crib/mattress/dresser yet. I do have the bassinet though that he will be using for the first 3 months in our room.
  • Hah, not even close. We're using it as storage for our books until our new bookshelves arrive. Then we have to get rid of the books we're donating. Then we have to get rid of the old furniture in there (it's my husband's office). Good thing the nursery furniture isn't slated to arrive until December.
Awaiting our bundle of cute chaos.

  • I have done absolutely NOTHING to prepare for this baby. I'm not worried about it though. I will start during the 3rd trimester.

  • Why not sit down together and plan 2-3 weekends that you can devote to nursery set-up?  Doesn't even have to be the whole weekend, maybe just a Saturday morning for 2 hours that you dedicate solely to "nursery chores".  It's a little overwhelming to think of getting it all done at once, but if you do it piecemeal, it'll come together and you'll have time to spare!

We started with selling our old bedroom furniture, which was in the future baby's room, on Craigslist.

Day 1(through 3 or 4??): we picked out paint color - we probably spent more time on this/at home depot debating colors and trying out numerous ones!

Day 2:  We painted ourselves, took about 3 hours total.

Day 3:  DH rented a carpet cleaner and cleaned the floor

Day 4:  Assembled crib and changing table - it was so much easier than we thought, about 2 hours time

We did all this over the span of like 2 months.

From there I've just been looking for cute décor!

Not even started here.. like we're talking haven't picked furniture. Nothing. theme? Kind of an idea... paint? Ha. I think we're doing it veterans day weekend though since DH is a fed and has a long weekend.

  • Not at all!  We bought the furniture but we still have to move my office downstairs to free up the nursery, then still paint, clean, organize, put the furniture together, etc.  We also need to see how things fit so we can decide if we can get a chair for me up here - this two cribs thing is filling up the room quickly!  lol.  Our list of things to do is currently quite lengthy.

  • Right now I have a friend living in what will be the nursery, so I can't even get started for another month while she does her hospital rotation for med school. But we don't have any of the nursery furniture yet either. I figure, if I absolutely run out of time or there's some kind of emergency, I have the Pack n Play she'll be sleeping in for the first few weeks/months already.

  • We were ready way ahead of time with our DD, but we quickly learned that it really didn't need to be "done" before she got here.  We had her sleep in our room in a bassinet for the first 4 months, so, until then, her nursery was only used for when I would nurse her in the glider.  This time around, it's going to be totally different.  We're moving in June/July and plan to have him sleep in our room until then, so no nursery prep at all.  If we do decide to have him sleep in his own space, we'll just be setting up the bassinet in the guest bedroom.  I am looking forward to putting together a room for him in our new house, though! :)

  • Haha no. I have nothing done. I need to transition dd to a big girl bed so I can use her crib for the new baby. The nursery is a storage room and I need to turn the loft into a play room in case I end up in a c section so I don't have to tackle stairs. I keep saying I'll wait until the shower but I haven't heard anything about a date so I may just need to start now.

The room is painted gray and purple already but might need to change the purple since we are having a boy, haven't decided yet. Oh and our theme is not readily available anywhere so I need to get crafting.

  • Our nursery is still being used as the "dump" room. At this rate the baby will be sleeping on boxes of Christmas decorations and old golf clubs. We've not even bought one thing yet either!! It'll be fine we've all got loads of time.
  • I have nothing ready for the baby. I'm not even sure what room he's going in yet. I should probably get on it, but we have to start a reno on the bathroom plus  paint and replace the flooring in our room and our oldest daughters room.
  • Our nursery is going in an addition that has not even broken ground yet. Plans were approved last week and filed with the county yesterday so work can begin, but I'm just kinda in denial about everything. We'll all just get real cozy in the one bedroom we currently have.

  • I'd take a picture of our trashed front room (who ever said dump room was right) if I wouldnt be beyond embarrassed.  The room used to be a guest room/turned holiday storage. We sold the guest room furniture...so that's a start right?

Im hoping little gnomes come in the middle of the night to clean it up and create the prefect nursery before February

With our first 2 I had every completely DONE in the second trimester (and good thing as my first came unexpectedly at 33w5d).

Baby #3 was a total surprise and we had been planning on being moved first, but we likely won't be. So, I am planning on putting him in DS2's room in a pack n play until we move and he has his own room. This basically means I have almost nothing to do to prepare nursery wise. I will be using one of DS2's drawers for the baby and purchasing another camera for our video monitor.. But that's pretty much it....
  • Our nursery hasn't even been started yet. It has never taken very long to get our nurseries together, in the past, so I'm really not concerned about it. DH can definitely have it done in a weekend (and the nursery has always been his job anyway). I doubt we'll even give it a second thought until after the holidays.

  • We are still working on the nursery for E who we got in July (we had 48 hours notice!)...once we get through that we can start thinking about the little man's room!

  • I haven't started our nursery yet either. Right now we're in a 3 bedroom house, so I am just now starting to move my youngest daughters things into her sisters room. Soon they will be sharing the room. We're also trying to buy a house, so I haven't been too worried about it since we may be moving soon. Also he'll be in my room for the first couple of months anyways.
  • I'm sitting in our future nursery. It's still 100% set up as office space. We have yet to pick out the furniture. Eh, baby will sleep in our room for the first few months anyways and we have the bassinet (and changing station for DS is already set up), so I'm not too worried.

  • We have to yet to kick our DD out of the nursery so that I can start getting it ready for baby #2. Evie won't move to her big girl room until December, so after that is when I'll get working on the nursery. I figure it'll keep me busy during the freezing winter months when I won't want to leave the house much anyway!

It's is so reassuring to hear I'm not the only one with a "dump" room. But now that our dump room is being turned into a nursery where will I dump all the stuff I don't know what to do with?!?

I guess I'll have to ORGANIZE. Yikes .

  • We have a game plan, but nothing has been started yet. Im not actually starting the room until after Thanksgiving, since right now it is my guest room and Im hosting family for the holiday. In my head it will get done in December.

I havent started to panic yet.

  • My kid won't even have a nursery until he's 6 months old. We live in a one bedroom house and decided to put off remodeling until after he comes. It's stressful because I WANT to be doing more to get ready for the baby and setting up a nursery would be a great way to expend some energy, but nothing I can do about it. I'll probably start setting up his corner of our bedroom in December.
  • We have stripped all the wallpaper off the 2nd floor and are fixing up the walls...then painting. Baby's room is 2nd or 3rd room on the list to get done. Still have to order furniture too. I had just decided on a crib but found out the company went bankrupt (Munire) a few weeks ago :(
  • I have nothing ready, not even bought yet. We are currently renovating the new house so we have a lot to do before prepping for baby. I'm talking every thing in the new house needs done. It's been completely stripped and all we have now is walls and cement floors. Hubby is working on it vigorously. Our main goal is to get heat on before winter! We will probably go in full baby prepping mode after the shower (Nov 22) hopefully by then we will be in the new house and better set up. So much to do, so little time
  • Our house is up for sale but I'm pretty sure we are taking it down and waiting until Spring so we can get settled here. I am a planner/neat freak so the fact NOTHING is done is freaking me out.
The nursery is currently the workout room..so we want to wait until Dec so we can still use everything! I did buy Curtain Rod/Curtains and she has some clothes hanging up but that's it....I freak out every day about this and have so many lists!! My husband swears we have enough time....
  • Ha! I wish we were close to that! Baby 3 was a huge surprise. DH and I are still looking for a 3 bedroom place for all of us. My kids are with my parents 2.5 hrs away as we both started jobs in a new town without relocation packages and both of our cars cratered unexpectedly within 3 weeks of one another so all of our savings went to new cars. Yea for emergency accounts, but paying 12-1400 in rent when I don't get paid time off for baby is freaking me out. Ugh.. One thing it's another
  • We have nothing done! We still need to move furniture out of there, paint, rip carpet out/put wood flooring in, put new fan in, get closet organizer and put door on room. Yep that sounds so scary! But I just tell my DH the longer he waits to start doing things the less help I'll be once I get bigger! He thinks we have all the time in the world!
