Would you do PGD? * loss mentioned*

Sorry for lack of paragraphs I'm on my IPad. i may be getting ahead of myself but if this cycle is another negative for us I have to decided my next steps. My last WTF appointment I asked the Dr about PGD a and he didn't feel like I would benefit much but agreed to do it if I wished. My thoughts are I'm 27 and been trying for 3 years with only one short lived pregnancy and 2 chemicals. I have had a great response both of my IVFs and DH has never had any issues so what else could it be? I guess I am just looking for an answer as to what our problem can be. My RE feels that poor egg quality is unlikely but I am not sure why? He said at the very least the chances of 100% of my eggs been poor quality is even less likely. The money isn't a non-issue but after what will be 5 failed transfers DH and I think it's worth it. My question is do you think it's worth it? For those of you that have done this have you found that if your unexplained you got some answer?

Re: Would you do PGD? * loss mentioned*

  • Also, is there anything else I can ask the Re about? A different protocol maybe?
  • Loading the player...
  • Would you just test the Frosties you have, or would you do another IVF cycle to bank more? It looks like from your siggy that you have seven left? I've never managed to get any Frosties so I haven't been able to really entertain PGD, but if I did/could count on having mine make it to freeze, I would definitely do PGD at this point (we've transferred six embryos through three IVFs).

If your RE doesn't think it is poor egg/embryo quality, has he considered trying you on the implantation failure protocols? Endometrial biopsy, baby aspirin, prednisolone, Lovenox?

    Everyone welcome!

  • What is your AMH? If it were me I would push for the PGD testing.

  • @Carol77B‌ we lost 3 to freeze so far so after the last transfer we have 2 left. The RE says we can add them to the batch we send to be tested. This last cycle we did do an endometrial biopsy and I have been on baby aspirin for each of my cycles. I will ask about the lovenox and prednisone.
  • @Frenchteachermama‌ I'm not sure what my AMH is, only that it hasn't been a cause for concern in the past but I will ask the Dr to revisit that.
  • My AMH is super low so my doctor wanted to do PGD testing on my embryos just in case my eggs aren't viable anymore.  Because I only have 7 fertilize he didn't think that the PGD testing was worth it, I guess he was worried about my embies surviving the process.

I'm going to page @O2girl here.  She just did PGD testing on her frosties, maybe she can give you more details about how the process works.

  • I don't have info on unfreezing and re freezing embryos to test, but I think if you have multiple failures I think pgd testing can be helpful.

I was told I'm old and have crap eggs so my best bet would be donor eggs. I wasn't ready for donor eggs just yet so I did a 3 cycle banking program so I could hopefully have enough blasts to test. We got results last week and I have normal blasts so we will transfer right before the end of the year.

  • I'm waiting for PGD results currently, and I've never been pregnant, so I can't give you any experience per se yet, but from your siggy/history, I would consider it if I were you. Especially if you can do it on a larger # of embryos- more bang for your buck. The unknown and the repeat losses would kill me. Side note-- Do you mind me asking about your RE freezing 3 days? I was only given the option to freeze on day 5 or 6. GL with whatever you decide to do!

  • *******************PAIF Warning **********************

After 1 fresh transfer and 2 frozen transfers I was so confused as to why my cycles weren't working. My current RE just kept saying we didn't get the "Right" embryo. I switched RE's to get a new perspective. I felt like my current RE wasn't willing to work "outside of the box" enough and I really wanted a fresh set of eyes on my history. I interviewed 3 different RE's and selected a new one. We agreed that even though I was only 27 and had never had a miscarriage, CGH (same idea as PGD) was the ONLY way to find out if the reason for all the failures was the embryos or ME. We did a new fresh cycle... I had 9 embryos left on day 5, we tested them and 6 were normal. If they all came back abnormal then I would have understood why so many failures but considering the majoirty of my embryos were normal lead us to believe that I probably needed more testing... My new RE ran immune testing and blood clotting testing. We added a endometrial scratch, prednisone (steroids) and intralipids and we transferred 1 genetically normal embryo and I had a chemical pregnancy. Devastating but it gave me HOPE that maybe my body COULD possibly work. Then we added lovenox, and also did the steroids and intralipids transferred 1 genetically normal embryo and it worked. I am now 27 weeks pregnant on my 5th embryo transfer. I total I transferred 8 embryos. I know it's exhausting but it's WORTH it to keep on fighting. Ask questions, interview new doctors (even if you don't switch it's really beneficial to get the opinion of experts), be your BIGGEST advocate. Eventually things line up it just takes a LOT of persistence for some of us :) Good luck to you!
