3rd Trimester

Ear pain after sleeping on it

I wanted to see if this is something weird that's just happening to me, or if others experience it too. I'm almost 35 weeks. The last several weeks, every time I wake up during the night, the ear I was laying on hurts really bad--like a throbbing pain. It's not just the cartilage part, it's like the entrance to the inner ear. I can't lay back down on that side, because it hurts so bad. It makes me want to lay on my back, and that's where I've ended up most mornings. The pain lasts maybe an hour after. I'll ask my doctor tomorrow at my appt, but was hoping Its just a pregnancy thing that maybe someone else has had. If you've had it, any suggestions for relief??

Re: Ear pain after sleeping on it

  • I've had this for years, and I still have no idea what it is.  It usually happens around my time of the month and last for a few days until things go back to normal.  It's only in my left ear, and it drives me crazy.  Sorry I don't have a cure, but I sure hope someone else does!

  • Yes! I thought this happening to me was so random I didn't even bother to ask about it on here... Super painful, I know exactly what you're talking about. I have gotten ice packs a few times for it!! During the day time you could touch my ear and I wouldn't think twice about it, but at night it turns into this ridiculous sensitive thing. Should be interesting to see if it sticks around after pregnancy. Although I suspect I'll be doing less of the exclusively left sided sleeping by then...

  • Me too. No idea why. Weird.
  • I'm so happy I didn't go through this!
I'm sorry for you ladies that do and hope it gets better!
