STM...using a stroller without the carseat snapped in?

Hey I am trying to wrap up this stroller purchase. I really think I was the City mini for the price and reviews. But I am struggling with whether I need the whole adaptor Etc for the carseat. I feel like with a January baby it won't get much use till at least two or three months old and I am wondering if at that point I can just recline the seat and put some rolled up blankets around her. Is the bracket for the car seat absolutely necessary?

Re: STM...using a stroller without the carseat snapped in?

  • IMO no. I didn't get much use out of mine, but I did a lot of baby wearing and carrying the bucket seat. You can get something like the Snuzzler by Summer Infant to put in the stroller to fit an infant better if you need it for the mall or milder weather. This time I'm not getting the adapter for the double stroller.

With that said I think the britax version of the city mini is great and I believe it works with the britax seats without an adapter so that might be something to consider.

I could hold you for a million years to make you feel my love.

  • I love, love, loved the fact that my carseat snapped into my stroller. Even in the winter, it's nice to have the option in case you want to walk around the mall/ take it to dr appointments/ the weather isn't too bad, etc. It's really frustrating to have to wake a peacefully sleeping baby to get them out of the stroller and into the carseat.

  • We got a snap n go to go with our infant seat. I also got a jogging stroller that was compatible with the infant seat. So we could use that right away as well but also later when baby was out of the infant seat.

  • I do really like the britax b safe and b agile...my only concern being that I am 3rd floor apartment and the britax is 10lbs versus the graco infant seat is 7.5 which might make a difference up so many darn steps

I had a convertible seat with lo and I will say this, I have almost no trouble moving him when he's asleep in the car seat to being him in the house and have him stay asleep because he's used to being carried in arms. Friends who toted their los in the bucket seat always marvel at how I can move him but I'm convinced its because I would carry him in arms or in a carrier versus that bucket. My stroller reclined to flat and I'd put him in this thing called a cocoon which is basically a baby duffle bag, it came with my Phil and teds stroller. Honestly I had such a heavy kid I would not have been able to tote him around I'm his bucket seat after the first two months so I'm glad I didn't get one but I also love baby wearing.
  • I had a travel system last time that I didn't use much. I mainly wore her. I'm getting a sit and stand this time but our car seat won't clip in. The stroller I'm getting (graco ready to grow) has a rear facing seat that is pretty reclined. I'll just wear him until he's big enough. My DD was one who hated her car seat, otherwise I may have used it more.

You're lucky! I tried to just take my kids in and out of the seat si I didn't have to lug the whole thing around, but they would never stay asleep. If they were awake I would carry them in a soft carrier, but sleeping they stayed in the infant car seat.

OP: I don't think the attachment is necessary, but would be nice to have. My stroller allows you to snap the car seat in without buying anything extra. Most strollers now days recline enough that you should be able to lay the baby in almost like a pram.
  • I actually did get a lot of use with the car seat in the stroller. DD was a February baby - but if I needed to get out to the mall so I didn't go stir crazy, or any day the high was at least the low 50's, I'd bundle her up and take her out for fresh air - I plan on doing the same with this LO. So for me, it was worth having stroller that took a car seat (I didn't need an attachment though)... but if you don't think you'll be doing that, maybe not so much.

  • So aparently my mom wanted her own stroller so we found a pretty good compromise. We got this: https://m.kohls.com/kohlsopenapi/productmobile.html?productID=1288519/graco-fastaction-fold-travel-system-finley.jsp. After the 30% off and $25 mail in rebate it's only $129. Mama dukes is giving is the $50 she was going to spend buying the stroller seperately and we get $30 Kohls cash. We will use that stroller and car seat till she can be in the City mini. It's also the second to lightest car seat available at 7.5lbs so maybe just maybe I can actually lift her in it.
