So, Amelia's birthday was a few weeks ago and I have a huge bin of stuff that she'll get 'on a rainy day' and a I purged things she was no longer playing with or didn't have interest in right now. We still have a ton of toys and I feel like they're never organized.
How do you keep your kiddo's toys organized? I want solutions that will be good for her when she's learning how to clean up after herself too. We're moving into a new home in a few months and we need a better solution. Thanks!
also, we need a good majority of the toys in the family room so the aesthetic of the storage has to be good and blend with our decor (teak/rosewood/rusticish stuff).
Re: toys, toys everywhere!!! Storage ideas needed!
This is something I still grapple with....and don't have under control. But I'm trying. I've been trying to keep less toys available/out at a time because the more toys...the more will be spread out and making a mess. Plus, when I have just a few things out for her, she stays more engaged with those few toys for longer.
I also TRY to purge toys every so often--donating them or giving them to friends w/ younger kids.
I bought an attractive wicker basket (I think at Target) that holds quite a bit...but I've been comtemplating doing what Jess (I think) mentioned doing a while back, and getting one of these:
I am so sick of the house being over-run with toys!
We just bought a bunch of storage cabinets/bins from Ikea on Friday and set them up in his room in hopes of moving some of the toy mess from the living area to his room now that he's older.
?
We got 3 of these. ?Sorry I don't know how to make it clicky.?

We have pink fabric bins from Ikea. One for books, one for stuffed animals, one for plastic toys, etc... She has a huge walk in closet, so we keep everything in there. I am adament about not having my living room look like a daycare. The only thing that stays out permanently is her swing.
(please ignore the lifesize pink pony shoved in the top of her closet, major issue between DH and I)
So Tasty, So Yummy
wow, F has some clothes! I have bins for DD's toys, but in our old house she didn't have a WIC, the new one she will. Perhaps we'll just use the fabric bins we have an build some shelves for her. hmmmm....
the pony is awesome... or not.
The sad part is, that is only about 2/3 of the clothes. Sigh.
The bins in the closet work really well on the shelves since her clothes are shorter than regular clothes. I want to build some sort of more permanent storage system on the opposite closet wall when she gets older.

Not very decor friendly, but we just bought this from Target for the playroom.
i know a lot of kids who have this kind of storage system and it rocks. we just don't have a place for it...
we have this in Truitt's room (in birch, not white) with books on 8 shelves (he has a ton of books!!), one cubby for cds, one cubby for cd player and a row of baskets across the bottom. big or self contained toys go on the 3rd row and small stuff goes in the baskets on the bottom.
in the front of the house (we don't have a family room) we have a huge woven basket with a liner from target. when we have company over and don't want that out, we just stick it in the corner of Tru's room.
i have a friend who rotates her son's toys. she keeps a big rubber maid bin in the spare room closet and every other month or so cleans out their toy chest and puts the other toys in. it keeps her house from being too overrun and keeps it interesting for the boy. i don't have the room or the patience for that, but have seen it work.
i really think baskets are the best, especially when they are learning to pick up on their own. they're little and cleaning will be tough if the system is too complicated.
My SIL has this Ikea shelf in the 2x4 and uses bins to hide the clutter. Looks great in their play room.

My big problem is I can't get rid of any of their toys. The ones Sarah is starting to outgrow, Jacob is ready for! I've just had to learn to live with some toy clutter until our new house is built!
PAGAS- Sarah's closet is the same way. It's beyond sickening. Poor Jacob's closet is no where near as full as hers...
For our living room, we have some toys in our coffee table. The "lids" are heavy, but DS can help clean up once they are open.

We also have some in a drawer of our entertainment center. Now that his birthday and Christmas are over, we need to do another overhaul and move some more things upstairs or donate/save for when we have another. We have a game room upstairs, where the train table and some other toys are, but we spend the majority of our time downstairs. It's gotten a little out of control... so we may have to look into a wicker basket or something, too.
We currently have the Target one with colored plastic bins (posted above) in DS's room, but I'm thinking about moving that to the game room and getting something like rayskit10 has for his room. The books are out of control, and I think they would fit better on a shelf than bin.
i purged by getting rid of anything that was missing even a small piece. we still have way too much but it is better...
We have one of these and several storage bins as well. Just a warning - these bins really hurt when you get hit in the head with them unexpectedly.

We just bought something like this at Target last week for the living room. It has made things so much better. I think we got ours for $65 and its just a bit smaller than that one.
I got my sister this for my niece's 1st bday, and she loves it! It comes in different colors too - one in primary colors, and one in pastels.
Although, you can still 'see' the toys - might be easy for A to put them up herself, though.
My dad made a toybox for Landon for xmas. (see siggy) It was pretty simple, if you have the right tools. I keep it in the playroom.
If your DH is handy or you know someone that it. It's an option.
