MOTN diaper changes.

How often do you change LO's diaper in the middle of the night? With DS1, I changed him at every feeding. But DS2 wakes every hour or two sometimes and I am just too tired to change the diaper everytime. Does every 4 hours or so seem reasonable, particularly if it is just wet.?

Re: MOTN diaper changes.

  • Haven't had this baby yet, but I always changed DD as soon as I knew she was wet. I think it help keeps diaper rash at bay, and who wants to sit in their own pee?

Flash forward to now, DD is so active I don't always know when she is wet and if she is busy playing she doesn't always tell us, and I don't actively worry about it. So for some reason, I guess I'm more vigilant with a newborn.

  • DS hates being wet and won't settle unless I change him so I check when he wakes up and after he eats.

Same. I check at every feeding but often she is wet before she eats and poops while she eats so if its a small amount of pee I sometimes wait till the kindle of the feeding or end.

  • I only change if I smell/hear poop. We haven't had any rash issues so far.

This. Or if the diaper is looking full enough that I worry about leaks before the next feeding. I don't change wet diapers that aren't full at night...but dirty diapers I change immediately. Typically DS will get a new diaper once or maybe twice during the night.
