So the FFFC got me thinking, I have no plan for emergencies.
We have the possibility of tornadoes, heavy snow storms, and flooding in our area.
What do you do to prepare for natural disasters?
I'm thinking I should probably invest in:
A battery operated or crank radio.
Flash lights (we need some better ones).
Water
Food
We have plenty of storage in our basement, I just need to get an area set to store non-perishables.
My biggest fear is actually being housebound in the winter (we can get heavy snow or ice storms).
Re: Emergency Plans
ETA: We also have a camping box with things you would need for camping, like charcoal, cooking supplies, camp shower, etc. that we could grab if we had to leave.

One thing I will try to remember to pack in addition to TJ's awesome list is my old pair of glasses. I'd be SOL if I couldn't see well. I will probably also put in FSTs for diapers and bandages, duct tape, and a utility knife.
Something else I did last year was store our camping cot and some extra blankets in the closet we use as a storm shelter. We are at great risk of tornadoes, and the darn things seem to crop up in the middle of the night.
We've had a few hurricanes recently, so we had to put a box together. Annual maintenance is pretty easy once you get one started.

It's a small, super bright light that you can use to temporarily blind and disorient an attacker. Some of them also have last resort close combat weaponry as part of them (like if you jam it into them it will stab them) which is not legal In every state. Regardless, they're useful in an emergency because the light is so powerful.

Batons are also illegal in several states. If you plan on having self defense weaponry you really need to look into your states laws.

I keep flashlights and candles in each room and 10-15 gallons of gas in the shed.
We are moving soon and our new house will have a storm cellar, so I've compiled a list of things that I will want stored down there and am working on slowly aquiring those. That list includes items for use if we are in the cellar for an extended period of time, as well as camping type equipment in case we come out of the shelter and find our house in ruins. I also have a small fire safe with important documents, vauables, and discs with pictures, etc. that I would take with me. At our new house we will also have a generator that can be used for the well and running the refrigerator.
DH is also a hunter, so we have several different guns and bows and keep plenty of ammo on hand for those.
