Cloth Diapering

NB Stash Questions

Hi! I've been lurking this board for quite some time and have really learned so much.  With so many options, it can be really overwhelming without some guidance. Thank you!  MH is a little reluctant to try cloth diapering, so I want to give it a try before stocking up on any OS. My EDD is in January and I'm planning on starting to work on building my NB stash.  This is what I have in mind:

30 prefolds (12 GMD cotton, 12 Osocozy cotton, 6 Thirsties hemp)
6 fitteds (1 Kissaluvs, 1 Kissaluvs hemp, 4 GMD)
1 Blueberry mini coverall
1 Bummis super brite cover
1 Imagine NB cover
1 Rumparooz NB cover
1 Sweet Pea NB cover
1 Thirsties Duo Wrap size 1 (probably won't fit for a few weeks, right?)
1 Thirsties xs
2 Snappis
1 pair Boingo
2 medium wet bags
We already have a diaper pail and liner
CJ's Butt-er

Would you bother with getting hemp for NB? I like that they are more absorbent, but it seems like I might be changing LO every few hours and they might not be worth it.  I couldn't decide on just a couple cover brands, so I want to get a variety and figure out which I like most.

Thoughts?

Here's a breakfast treat for you!

Re: NB Stash Questions

  • I probably wouldn't bother with hemp for the NB stage. You're right that they're not sitting in them long. Otherwise your stash looks pretty good. If you really want some variety, you might consider a few pockets or AIOs. Blueberry Simplex and Basix are two of my favorites that for DS the longest. DH loved them since they are simpler than prefold ms and covers. If you sign up for their emails, you can get notification when they stock the seconds sale again.

  • Looks great! Like Jane said a few pockets or aios might not hurt to try. I used them primarily for the diaper bag and when I had someone over to help with the baby since they are super easy. Simplex is awesome and fit for a long time (10ish weeks!) but pricy. I had some kawaii p&n too that worked. You may also want a cd safe cream that is a little stronger. Cjs is a great barrier cream but not always string enough for rashes. We like grandma el's or just straight coconut oil.

  • Every thing Jane said.  I love your variety in cover choices. I'm a try a little bit of everything kind of girl too! You might be surprised on the Thirsties size one.  They do fit some babies right away.  If you haven't checked it out yet, the GMD website has a link on the front page to "Pictures of Newborns"  it shows several different covers on different sized NBs.

    Breakfast was delicious BTW!  :)

  • Good job putting that stash together.  It looks really good.  Congrats on your rainbow baby.  Best of luck for a healthy rest of your pregnancy and labor & delivery.
  • Ok, so no hemp prefolds or fitteds. In all my (over)researching, I didn't notice that they make pockets for NB sizes! I definitely want to try them out because I'm leaning towards doing OS pockets down the road.

    Thanks for the suggestions!
