Angst!! MIL troubles UPDATE (yes already lol)

So hubby and I are going away this weekend. It's been so long since we've had any really good quality time together and I'm really looking forward to it.

My mom was unavailable to watch Hannah, so I asked MIL. I was hesitant for a few reasons: she usually has her other 3 grandchildren over on the weekend, whether for the day or sleepover that depends. But from my experience she is not capable of watching all 4 at once. Ages are 7, 4, 2 and 21 months. And my nieces and nephews are sweet, but not very well behaved. The other reason is that she is a very negative person and focus on negatives even with children. I have heard her tell my BIL and SIL in front of their children how ill behaved the children were. I mean can you imagine hearing your grandma say how bad you were? I can only imagine it would be super shameful for them. And lastly, she called Hannah the "queen of the tantrums" recently and it offended me.

But hubby was a bit upset by my reasons so I asked her anyways.

So fast forward to today, she was watching Hannah while we both worked. (hubby had an emergency at work and had to work late) Hannah was asleep when I picked her up. I brought her home and noticed she was still wearing the cloth diaper that I put on her at 12:45pm, it was 9:30 by the time I got home. She got Hannah around 5:00. Did it not occur to her to change her diaper before putting her to bed. (talk about confidence in my leaving her for the weekend shot)

THEN she tells me that she couldn't find any staff to work for her tomorrow night so my MIL and FIL will both be out of the house for 3 hours while my SIL (who I promised myself I would NEVER let her watch Hannah) will be watching all 4 children and putting them to bed! I have seen her night time routine with her 2 year old, it basically consists of a diaper change, pj.'s and then into bed. No stories, not cuddles, no singing. And if the child screams for half an hour, well she'll fall asleep eventually.

I feel like literally the worst case scenario is happening with this weekend trip. I am actually fairly anxious about my SIL watching Hannah, she is borderline neglectful of her children. She is a screamer. I don't really see her cuddle or be that affectionate with her own children.

I really needed to vent about this. I was so looking forward to a weekend away, we need it so bad. Now I fear I'm gonna be anxious Friday evening. Perhaps I'll have hubby call his mom Friday evening to see how everything went so I can relax. Thanks for listening ladies!

UPDATE:
I finally got a hold of my mom and she is able to watch Hannah Friday night so SIL doesn't even need to take care of her. I can relax now.

Oh and hubby was just as upset and annoyed at his mother as I was. That kinda surprised me but also made me feel justified!

  • Eeeeek :( I feel you on needing a weekend alone, however, this is not ok. I know it's hard to trust others with your baby, but there are some ligit concerns here. I'd be canceling, or brining her with us.

  • Ever feel stuck between a rock and a hard place?

I would so much rather just bring her with us now. But doing that would create SO much drama between me and MIL, and our relationship is strained at best. Gonna go talk to hubby.

While H would have suffered no long term damage it's so much better you can leave her with someone you trust.
