Hi everyone I'm a first time poster and I have a question that I'm hoping you can shed some light on.

I'm nearly 18weeks and this morning I noticed when going for my shower that I had a sort of crusty build up on one of my nipples. Does anyone know what this might be from?

Also is anyone else experiencing sore and itchy nipples? Mine are driving me crazy!!!!

It sounds like dried up colostrum (the stuff produced before milk).
Your breasts could be sore and itchy because they're getting bigger. Try lotion:)

I have this happen a lot also. I use coconut oil, it's like instant relief for me.

I have it.. It doesn't itch or bother me. Never really thought about putting cream on it. I would probably use lanolin since it's safe for breastfeeding anyway. I loved that stuff.

At 20 weeks last pregnancy, I started leaking from one breast while on a bike ride.  Totally mortifying at the time!

Sounds like either colostrum (totally normal at this stage) or simply dry nipples (tis the season)... As others said, I'd try lanolin or coconut oil. Both work magic.

you may want to keep an eye out for leakage. It can happen at any time as your body prepares. If you notice leakage - invest in some nursing pads.

Lanolin or coconut oil/butter/cream will work wonders. In some severe cases (before you start breast feeding) you may even be able to use a low dose OTC cortisone cream to relieve the discomfort.
