Pregnant after IF

OHSS question

Does anybody know how late you can still get OHSS? I never technically had it but was high risk and now I'm starting to have some pretty instant bloat (like overnight) and weird soreness in my ab muscles.

I guess it could just be a pregnancy thing but I'm wondering if I'm far enough along now that I'm out of the woods in terms of new onset of OHSS, or if it's possible to get it when I'm already 5 weeks in?

I may call the RE tomorrow just in case but can't really find any useful info on the internet :). Thanks!

Re: OHSS question

  • Hmmm. Maybe it's worth a call if you're worried. I didn't have it, but my understanding was that if you had it it would stick around with pregnancy. When I did an u/s last week the tech freaked out because my ovaries were big. I told her it was the IVF but she got the doctor about it. He confirmed it's the IVF. I do still have sore ovaries even now and I'm 12w tomorrow.

  • I know there's early onset and late onset. I would call your doctor in the AM to see what they say. Gatorade and protein are your friend. Good luck and hopefully it's just baby bloat!

No dificult breathing, I just started checking my weight just in case but will have to wait and see if it changes. I think I will start back up on the Gatorade and protein just in case.

It seems like everything I have read shows late onset setting in between ER and ET so this seems odd. Hopefully it's nothing but i will be extra cautious. I go out of town next week for vacation and would hate to have something happen while I'm away from my RE.

ETA- thank you for your replies :)

  • I had late onset and it showed up 6dp5dt... it was my first pregnancy sign! I got a BFP the next day. Late onset is aggravated by rising HCG levels in early pregnancy.  Mine resolved around 9 weeks and only got to moderate (daily monitoring via ultrasound but they never drained me). Definitely let your RE know.

  • I got overnight bloat at about 4 weeks. My e2 was sky high when I triggered, but I didn't have any OHSS symptoms until my babies were snuggled in tight. I can't tell you how much smartwater and coconut water I drank during the 2ww. Hopefully it's just a positive sign!
  • Yes I can get worse with pregnancy because of the increase in hormones. In moderate to server cases it can last up to 12 weeks. I had it right after my egg retrieval and it only got sever after I was pregnant at 4.5 weeks. I still have it and I am now 7 weeks but feel a lot better now :)
